Newcomers are often shy to ask the questions that others may regard as "easy" ones. How do I field strip AK47? Well, it is easy, and you'll be able to do it in no time.

1.As you already probably know, the first concern is to make sure your gun is safe for handling. If you are one of those "risky" types, please take into consideration the safety of all those living around you. Being constantly assaulted by more and more bans, AK owners really don't need no freak accidents. Point your gun in the safe direction all the way through the procedure. Pointing your gun at the dry wall of an apartment is not commonly considered as "safe" for AK. In the urban areas it would be either unpaved ground, or a big piece of heavy furniture lower to the ground, like a couch or a bookshelf. It is your responsibility to think ahead of available way of a safe handling of your weapon, according to unique circumstances of your home.

First, remove the magazine (Always!). Then set the safety to "fire" and pull the charging handle all the way back and hold it. While holding the charging handle, visually make sure there is no round left in the chamber (IF YOU SEE A ROUND, DO NOT TRY TO TAKE IT OUT OF A CHAMBER. SLOWLY RETURN THE HANDLE, PUT THE SAFETY LEVER IN THE SAFE POSITION, LIE THE GUN DOWN, AND CALL FOR QUALIFIED HELP). If there is no round, release the charging handle and let it slam forward. Pull the trigger.

2.Remove the top cover of the receiver. With your thumb, deep the square serrated button on the end of a top cover, and then lift up the rear end of the cover. Notice, how the front end of the cover was secured in the rear sight block.

3.Remove the spring assembly. To do that, once again, push the button on the top end of a receiver to move the spring assembly forward, till it comes out of its well. Notice, how the spring assembly was inserted into the carrier.

4.Time to remove the bolt carrier. Make sure that the safety lever is in "Fire" position, and pull the charging handle all the way back, then lift it up and out of the receiver.

5.Separate the carrier and the bolt, by rotating the bolt clockwise, and then pulling it out of the carrier.

6.Now the gas tube. On the right side of a rear sight block, locate the Gas Tube Release lever. Flip it into a vertical position. Now, lift the rear end of the gas tube up, and then remove the gas tube.

7.There is only two more thing left for this disassembly procedure, to be considered as complete as intended by Mr. Kalashnikov. The field cleaning kit, and the cleaning rod. It is considered as part of a field stripping, because the whole field stripping procedure is designed to allow field cleaning, and you will need those two to perform it.

Cleaning Rod - Just pry it down out of it's well, and pull it forward, out of the handguard. DO NOT position your head in front of the gun, while removing the cleaning rod.

Field Tool Kit - It is hidden in the back end of the stock. Some versions of AK don't have the field kit. If you see a small metal "door" size of a nickel, in the back of the stock, insert the finger in it and try to keep the "door" completely open, while allowing the spring loaded field kit to come out.
