See there's a fact that's always conveniently left out: Serial numbered guns are often not traceable past the first owner, and while its a Felony to do so, numbers can still be obliterated, and we're dumb enough to think criminals really care about such things.
So long as it looks like  we're doing something to prevent gun crime, the scared folks that elected us will keep re-electing us.
