Mayor de Blasio — not Hillary Rodham Clinton — will be the Democratic nominee for president in 2016. That’s the jaw-dropping prediction being made by New York’s top Republican, state GOP Chairman Ed Cox, who, as son-in-law to former President Richard Nixon, knows a thing or two about national politics. But not about NYS politics apparently. Rob Astorino would have won had the NYS GOP gotten behind him. |

A NYC mayor sees himself as head of the important part of NYS. He has more power than the governor in the part of NYS that he actually cares about, and doesn't have to work with members of the other party ever. Notice that Bloomberg, Giuliani, etc never even hinted at being governor.

But remember the Dem base is what the primaries are all about, they are increasingly getting more lunatic fringe as time goes on, also decreasing in number as the "rational" Dems move to the Indepenent ranks. I could see them going full retard and backing that asshat.
Also, the "Working Families Party" is literally the American Communist Party rebranded, once a pariah and now embraced by the Dems as blood brothers. Hitlery "may" run, as per a staffer at a job I did she is not convinced it will happen. |

Both parties move towards the extremes during the primaries, and then towards the center in the general election. It's because most primary voters are committed to the party's ideals, while in the general election both parties need the moderates to win. Agreed about the WFP. |
