What's with the rally point and satellite phones on Wards Island? Looked like of few secret service people in on the action as well. If I was to guess I would say the asshole is in town with his fucking mouth piece campaigning bullshiting and fund raising. The last thing I would do is be part of that operation, I would call in sick.

Guys in those units aren't calling in sick and risking losing their detail.

+1.  They already work for the most politically antigun PD in the nation under Bloomberg, calling in sick to protest Obama being in NYC is futile at best and downright unprofessional on any level.

Not to mention career suicide. Enjoy losing your specialist pay, OT, and going to work patrol in the ghetto.

And everyone who does protection for a government agency will tell you...you do it to protect the office....not the person in office.  When you do this work, who sits in the seat doesn't matter.....our job is to make sure that office never experiences a loss.  Sometimes you just happen to like the person, sometimes you don't.

I had one protectee I could not stand their views politically.  However, personally, they were the nicest, most generous and considerate protectees I have ever had.

There's much more to it than that;
You see if you're not on the "inside" then you are on the outside looking in.
While you're "inside" you can see what's really going on, motivate, encourage, and dissuade others all while earning more money that will allow you to work against them later.
Who do you think the politician is going to pay more attention to; the guy IN his Office or the rabble protesting in the square?
