I wanted a lightweight iron-sight KISS AR as my 3rd AR.

Wasn't going for the lightest possible, but wanted it lighter than my AR w/ all the toys (quad rail, red dot, flash light, BUIS, ect).

I decided to go with a detachable carry handle so if in the future I want to throw an optic on it I can without it hanging off the handle.

Weight Breakdown

Upper Assy & Bolt/Carrier = 1815g / 4.00 lbs

Lower Assy & Stock = 882g / 1.94 lbs

Detachable Carrying Handle = 259g / 0.57 lbs

––––––––––––-

Total = 2956g / 6.52 lbs

(Full 30rd USGI Mag = Additional 431g / 0.95 lbs)

What's on it

Del-Ton 16" Light Weight Rifle Kit - $586

-16" 1x9 Chrome Lined Light Weight Barrel

-ACE Ultralite Entry Stock

-Flat top w/ Detachable Carrying Handle

-Phantom Aggressive End Comp/Brake - Pinned (Thanks NY)

-No bayo lug (Thanks again NY)

Stripped DPMS Lower - $120 (during the post-election crazyness)

Bolt/Carrier & Charge handle - $0 (Had extra laying around)

Ergo Sure Grip (Ambi) - $23

Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard - $19

Magpul MOE Handguards - $30

––––––––––––-

Total Cost - $778

OAL = 33.5 inches

Took it out shooting this past weekend, worked out nice!

Nice K.I.S.S.   The magpul handguards are pretty nice. I met a guy at the range last year that had them and his rifle felt light as a feather
compared to mine at the time.  Definitely a weight saving over a quad rail, especially with all the fixins'. I just switched from a LaRue mount/millet dms
to a LaRue aimpoint T1 combo and it's like a completely different rifle. It weighs in now at 8.1 lbs with the RRA rail, FUG, and light & mount. I think the
scope and mount weighed almost 2 lbs.by themselves. I'd like to get in under 8 lbs, but I'm not sure where else I can shave weight except for my rail.

Yeah, I was suprised at just how solid they are.  A definite improvement over stock handguards.

They'd be worth it at twice the price.
