All, I am in my first 4x4 and the wife and I want to learn how to correctly and safely off road and test the limits of our vehicle so that we can use it to the fullest.  I am North of Dallas and trying to find a club that can teach me how to safely use my vehicle, and winch.  I would love to be able to do a camping thing as well....

Any suggestions - fire away.

The vehicle.

going good.  We need to do a local USMC shoot some time this summer.  Most of my break has been fixing a master bath remodel...

I love the truck, just need to learn to use it safely now.

thanks for all the good suggestions gents.

The Lone Star Landcruiser Club is your best bet to get to know guys to wheel A LOT.  There is a LC Roundup every spring at Katemcy Rocks, and you will get a chance to see what that vehicle is capable of.  Post over on the forum and get to know the guys, as many of them are in your area.  Here's my little Toy.    '79 FJ40, slightly modified.

stay away from the construction folks  and all will be well.

if stuck ..   dont ask them for help  they will radio a supervisor and you will be ticketed..

but if you stay away from them they will leave you alone.

common sense but it seems lost on some people.

edit..

when you get down to the river bottom you will see shotgun shells as far as the eye can see.. < ok not as far as the eye can see but it was still a shock to see so much in what is otherwise...   the middle of a huge city >

never been there unarmed....  but i have also never meet any unfriendlies there.
oh and again  common sense...   dont go alone. and by alone... i mean dont go in one truck..  the edges are flat and look like no big deal..     down by the river there is LOADS of trails that look like they are for motorcycles..     and eventually you will want to try them and find your self in a jam..

if you feel rain..   get out ..  plain and simple.

stop what your doing..   and get out ..

that river will over flow if three people piss in it at same time.
