it looks stupid and gay with all the bright colors

I always liked the old TX plate because it was all business, no flashy graphics or cheesy images or slogans. It was plain as hell but screamed "TEXAS" at the same time.

The new one looks like the front of a damn fruit-roll-up box

i concur. i preffer the older one as well but out of the new designs i would have picked the "traditional" one, simple and minimalistic.

here are all the designs they had considered and the new one for those who dont know whats up.

They look substantially worse in person than they do in pictures on the internet.

I got "new" old style plates one month before the new crappy ones came out. At least another 7 years without getting the ugly ones.

Space shuttles, oil wells and cowboys, now that said something.  Whats with the floural bouquette?  Are we the sissy flowers state now?

I guess I'm indifferent about the new ones.

What I completely don't understand is why the state is wasting $$$ on replacing plates every 7 years. We just got our new ones. Why? The old ones are in perfect condition...

Looks gay and is made out of the wtvr the cheapest "metal" they can get their hands on. Almost worth it to pay for a custom plate not to have that gay one.

Supposedly the reflectivity wears out.  I've seen some pretty beat up ones on work trucks...  but most of them are usually in pretty good shape after 7 years.

I don't particularly like the new ones, the old ones were fine.  They aren't as ugly as some states though...

I completely agree that the simple license plate was more "Texas", but what I really hate is that you can't read them unless you're a few feet away. Who the hell thought smaller blue letters on a half blue background was a good idea?

ETA: I don't mind the new drivers licenses as much because at the design helps combat counterfeiting.

+1

Doesn't even look like Texas, IMHO.

The old ones that just said "TEXAS" at the top were the best. The stupid space shuttle/cowboy/oil rig ones were terrible. The new ones are an improvement over those.

I hate all of them and just got TSRA plates.

I wish they'd go back to a registration sticker you can read from inside the vehicle.

With that dark blue backing it's damn near impossible.  I just got a ticket for an expired registration.

I have to imagine that was the point. The year they switched over I spent like ten minutes trying to figure out how to peel the blue part off before I realized that it was supposed to be like that.

The design is ok... but the E-Vote thing does not represent the true colors they have put on the plate.... the extremely light blue... almost neon looking sky color is way different than the one they represented on the website.

So yes... the new ones do look fucking queer.

Anyone notice the lack of Texas flag or even a lone star on the new Driver License?

ETA: I realize there is a tiny state flag on the capitol building. Thats barely even noticable. Im not even a born Texan, and I find it unacceptable.

The colors remind me of those red, white, and blue "rocket pops" we purchased from the ice cream man 30 years ago.

I have had the TSRA plates since they were approved.  I figure they are not politically correct and hopefully it gets the leftists panies in a bunch when they see em.

Plus it supports the TSRA George Tubb scholarship.

Guess i'll get the Hunt Texas plate next time around.

Was checkin out the new plates today, it's kinda difficult to read the letters.  The blue letter blends in with the blue top of the new plate.

I imagine Police Departments aren't going to like it.

The new plate looks like a business intern made it in power point.  The old one is worse.  I prefer the '67 plate posted :)

Extremely faggish...something a hippie or new age crystal weirdo would appreciate. If you have a Chevy Volt it may be ok - but not for a real vehicle.

Think the goal is to encourage folks to spend extra fundage on custom plates.  Just got my new plates and EVERYBODY in my house hates them.

My thoughts as well.  On light cars it's not as bad.  Somebody here at my office drives a black Acura RL, and all the blue from the sky looks absolutely ridiculous.
