Downside is people will know what you have if you keep the doors open for any length of time.
Build a cabinet around it or keep a piece of plywood in front of it.
Good idea "in the garage". My safe was kept in the garage with dessicant cans. The only problem was when Hurricane Ike came through the Bay Shore area my garage was flooded. The safe had guns and lots of ammo stored in it. Aproximately 31 inches of water ruined the safe and some of my ammo. The guns cleaned up good (except for a couple of wood stocks)some ammo that wasnt stored properly did not. My flood insurance would not pay for the contents of my garage
. I recieved a new safe from Cannon because they honor thier warranty for fire or flood dammage shipped to my curb
. I thank GOD we had no water get in the house, as our home sets about 3.5 feet on pier and beams. Some of the nieghbors did get it in thier homes.
So someone might consider the unforseen and check thier insurance flood policies. Some homeowners policies will have limited liability for guns too.
I was going to enclose my safe in a cabinet prior to the hurricane just didnt get to it. Now my safe is in climate controled indoors,
