Quoted: if i read your post correctly, your father is active duty or reserve U.S. military.
if that is the case, then as of 9/1/2005 he does not have to even engage in the pistol qualification. if he has proof of military training for firearms within the last 5 years:

Also, the renewal is $35 instead of $70 if you can prove mil training within 5 years.
I sent the renewal package off last week, and the instructor told me that it applied to retired mil folks. I called Austin, and the 5 year deal was explained.
I've been out since 96...
EDIT: Have to tell you this.
My renewal class was at Blackhawk, and there were only two of us in the class. I know the folks at Blackhawk fairly well, and when he told me the classroom protion was at his house, I found that weird.
Anyway, my classmate was a SEAL. Yep, I checked his bonafides. Was here on leave. It goes without saying I'm not gonna repeat his name or duty station. I heard some pretty interesting stories about A-stan, Iraq etc. Seemed like a good guy.
Mofo can shoot, too!
Gotta admit it seemed like it turned into a competition, though.
I figure I held my own OK considering I'm twice his age and kinda beat up.
He shot a perfect score (500), I shot 499 - I missed 500 by about 3/4" inch. I threw one freaking bullet! I thought they scored them 10 points each round, but a couple days later I was told no - shrugs I dunno or care.
His group overall was probably 2" or so less than mine.
Yeah I know; the CHL COF is pretty simple.
And I know somebody is gonna call "BS" so call Blackhawk - we renewed on Thurs 29 Sep.
