i think i might head up Missouri way and do a little work on my farm.
anyone want to come with me? |
if you have to ask your not invited |
maybe but that's the only place i got oh, anyone who want's to go be sure to pack your own shovel. we will be diging a hole for a septic tank 4'x4'x4'. until we get that done you will have to shit in the woods |
how far is this from Houston? |
12 hrs. give or take a little |
i never thought so but some folks just don't like going behind a tree. |
Go to Missouri just because Mexico is getting a weak hurricane?
Nope. Don't think so. |
i am in the spring area, i will hunker down if it does hit s.e. Texas.
Crap now I may have to drive down to Rockport and back just to make sure everything is secure.
I should just tell TEXRDNEC where the spare key is at and that there is some ice cold ones in the fridge(leave out the fact that the cold ones are Cokes ) |
I'll be working if it hits us. Woohoo 12 hr mandatory shifts and sleeping on cold concrete at the popo station. I hate it, but will admit the checks are nice. Unfortunately even if a cat 5, will be no buggin out for me. The dog and wife will be headed to my parents up in Jasper county though. Along with my precious toys.
we're not sure what we're gonna do, or go.
My closest relatives are my parents in Amarillo, that's a long drive... |
With all the NO residents here in Houston, could'nt leave.....
Because if it hits big, that means we would have a target rich enviroment of looters ! |
They cancelled everyone's time off and everyone's on call. I ain't going anywhere.

Sorry to here that. If Rita banks up towards N.O. do you get your weekend back? I got a source that told me that Bush is mad that people said he didn't like Black people in NOLA so he is sending another hurricane their way |
me too. we are told to bring food and sleeping bag to work because we are on call. I will secure my guns in the safe and my dad will be at the house to defend it. I will have my lightweight AR in my truck just incase though. |
I would guess so...but we'll see. |

Ever ridden out a Cat 3 in Houston? No? I did way back in 1983 with Alicia. While she wasn't that big or bad of a hurricane, our neighborhood got torn the hell up. Shitloads of flooding, trees down EVERYWHERE, Downtown lost a bunch of windows in the tall buildings. It was no picnic. We were stuck in our house for only a day and a half, but it was still a pretty stout storm. Rita looks (now it's still 5 days away) that it's going to hit right about the same spot as Alicia did. And if Katrina is any clue on how quick hurricanes will strengthen in the Gulf this time of year? I'd probably be bugging out. I'm keeping a close eye out on Rita's developments. If she turns nasty, I may end up evac'ing some of my family to Austin. |

Dude, you are totally channeling EricTheHun! |
As long as no trees fall on me (in the woodlands) I should be okay. I am 77 miles from the coast.
If da lights goes out, I be headin to da Astahdome. I heyahs dat duh mofucking gubmint gives u a credit card yo!
Or maybe I'll stay at home in the North side and wait for one of my 60 ft pine trees to fall on the house |
Looks like they moved the thing again. Projected landfall is just right around Matagorda Bay. Maybe it'll keep moving further south, and make landfall in Mexico?
i think i will be sitting this one out too.
if we leave the N.O.'s will take over, move into our homes and take over our business' |
At this point in time, it's got a bullseye painted in central Texas: This is a good page |
You're welcome. Don't forget that the National Hurricane Center has a good page as well.

If it is a Cat. 3 or less, then I will ride it out.
I live in Downtown Houston, and that is kinda scarey. My bedroom is sub-terrainian. (about 6 feet) With a window at about 1.5' above the ground. If it gets nasty, all downstairs furniture will move upstairs, and I will tarp the plasma tv. I will probably ride it out downtown, unless it goes to a big cat 3, and then I will head to the Woodlands, and to a friends house. I have already spent better than $300 on supplies. Plywood for my buisiness, water, flashlights, food, radio...ect.... I DO NOT want to be stuck out like those (unprepaired) idoits in N.O. Oh yeah, and the Glock, and AR will ber close at hand. Does anybody know how the I-10, and 59 section fared during T.S. Allison? Did it flood? Thanks, Doug. |
I don't forsee there being a huge problem in downtown houston, thenm again, I just moved here and don't know much about Hurricanes. Nevertheless, the AK, M4gery and SPR will be ready to rock on very short notice, should looters think it wise to mess with my shit.
Not sure about that location, but check here in their maps section and you may find the info you need. Alpine |

Places that had never flooded before flooded during Allison. My parents have lived in the same house in Pasadena since '76 and had never had water in the house from any storm (even Alicia). Their house flooded twice during Allison! I'm hearing the state expects Rita to be a Cat 4 before landfall. If it goes Cat 4 my wife and son are headed to Austin and I'm bunking at the PD. She'll have her .38 and the pump 20 and I'll bring my PT945 and SAR1. |
bring that sorry little bitch on. i haven't thrown a good hurricane party since brett in '98(?)...........
easy for you to say, I don't have an ar at the moment. can I borrow someone's? |
yeah, and you know under the Mayor's orders here in H-town, the HPD is gonna be gunnin for respectable gun-owner citizens trying to protect store-fronts and properties
well what do you have? thought you had an AK of some type? |
Hell, I still remember Alicia. It was bad...but IIRC, there were no lootings. I guess the trend has caught on now ever since Rodney King riot in LA. |
oh yeah, with a lack of Law and order, you could bet on it in Houston. |
Be careful, dude. You don't want Rita to Katrina your place. |
where was this said? all the other hurricanes and weather troubles the rest of the world has had never amounted to all this choas, then it hit N.O. and its spreading like wildfire. i will be posted up, let one fall in the wrong door |
come on man, you know how a lot of HPD are. not saying it will happen, but in NO they ordered everyone to give up their firearms. I'm still in disbelief about that. You're in a city with a mayor and leaders that are just as liberal. expect the same thing to happen here. they can have my rifle(s) that's of course after they let it cool down |

I'm planning on staying. Let's see how this tracks over the next two days.
I'm in Clear Lake. Could get wet. |
This is really pissing me off. I'm pretty sure the Austin City Limits Music Festival will be cancelled.
I may send the wife and the dogs to Austin if it gets to Cat 4. I plan on staying. I may swing by Specs and get some looter bait on the way home tonight. |

We live in Midtown Houston and yes 59 flooded just past George R Brown going south on 59 when it starts going down hill alot of flooding all around downtown good luck |
