Hello,

I am possibly moving to Texas in the next year or so.  If I do go, it will be to the Del Rio area as an Air Force instructor pilot.  Right now the other option is to go to Enid, Oklahoma.  I know HD Rifles is based in Del Rio, so that is a positive reason!  Anyhow, please send some gun-related reasons why I should put Texas over Oklahoma...

I know!  But, if you cut Alaska in half, Texas would be the third largest state!  Anything else that makes Texas great?

No Income Tax.

I'm an Alaskan resident and I don't pay income tax anywhere (for now at least).  Tell me about sales tax though?  State regulated or does it vary by town?

Folks have been coming to Texas because they WANT to, not because they have to.  About half of the Alamo defenders were not native Texans, but they were there because they WANTED to be there.

The only good reason to be here is because you want to be here.  I suggest you come out for Gunstock and take a look around for yourself.  Oklahoma is a great place too.  It should probably be called North Texas!

I lived in Midland, about 4 hours from Del Rio, and our sales tax is 8.25%...varies from city to city though. I think ours was on the high side.

If you're still pretty young, Acuna is just across the border and they have some great parties

I've already done a year at pilot training in Del Rio...  Any information on formal shooting - IPSC, IDPA, 3 gun, etc.?  Unfortunately, I didn't get much of a chance to go looking for these things the first time around...

As for the "want to" part, sometimes Uncle Sugar doesn't really give you a lot of options - that's why I'm asking about things to do...

Definately the Women, lol.  I think you probably get better flying conditions than in OK.  You are going to be pretty far from civilization out there, but then again you could be a missile guy at FE warren.

How about the weather.  Yea, it is hotter than hell in Del Rio, but it is hotter than hell in OK too.  In Del Rio, you don't have tornados like you do in OK.

They sell better beer in TX.  You have Shiner and Zigenbock.  If you want them in OK you probably have to deal with some bootlegger or some other low life that swam across the river with it.

Del Rio is close to the border.  You can go across and do shopping.  Stuff is cheaper there.  Like cigs, and liquor, and taxed stuff.  You could do that in OK too, but then you would be in TX.  So why not just move there.

Del Rio is in southwest TX.  The heart of deer country.  The place is lousy with them.

They say the reason TX has not fallen into the gulf of mexico is because OK sucks so much.

Thats all of the reasons that I could think of at the moment.

The Del Rio/ Laredo area is also good bird hunting too. Quail and dove.  By dove I mean white wing dove, not those spindly little mourning dove like we have up here in SE Texas.

Good God in Heaven the Dallas Cheerleader all the way on the left is like 9 foot tall! Her head is even with the ladies in the 4th row back who are obviously standing on risers! Check it out.

I guess everything is bigger in Texas.

I have been pulled over 4 times since I got my CHL.  Each time I was carrying.  Once was in OK, the rest was in Texas.

The OK officer was condescending and rude in regards to my CHL.  I got a ticket.

All 3 TX officers were courteous and professional.  I was sent on my way with either a written warning or a "sorry to bother you, have a nice day."

I was driveing cross country and was pulled over by a Texas State Trooper and he was the kindest most respectful cop I have ever met and almost made it nice to get pulled over buy him.
I have family in AZ and TX and they all say it's a different way of life... I live in NJ
