I was told you were out there, hooked eh?

It is fun, but I only got out to 700 yds, due to range limitations and time.

We need to get out there together sometime Mojo.

Not only will you be hooked with shooting there, but like me, it will be harder and harder to resist walking out of Bill's shop with some new AI rifle of sorts.

Sure.  Give me 2-3 wks to get my rig together.  Now I'm thinking reloading .308 for this purpose only. and maybe .45 and .40 caliber.

Want a nice rig?  Go get a rem 700 bdl cheapo rifle (only need the action) and take it to docs in richardson and tell him to build you a tack driver.

Must suck changing targets

No need to change targets.  You can shoot steel, but while we were there, we were shooting at clay pigeons and keeping our rounds within the diameter of the clay pigeon around the one at which we were aiming.  So I'd call that about 3/4 MOA at 1000 yards.

If you want to change targets, then try the long-range matches at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells.  You have to take turns shooting and pulling and marking targets in the pits.  F-Class is good for learning the wind and getting some great dope for your rifle, optics and loads.

I got a good rifle for 1000 yard shooting...

A Sharps Shiloh Heavy Target.... 34" barrel, .45-70 with a tang verneir sight.  That'll reach out to 1000 yards pretty easy.

I'm gonna try to get some ammo loaded up for Gunstock and bring it up to shoot a few rounds.

This is something I've wanted to get involved in for a while, but my budget is going to be pretty thin for a few months because of the second house.  But at least I have some money again!

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

I understand what you are saying. When I got my 700P this winter and put the SWR/Wraith on it, the accuracy was amazing. Hitting aspirin bottles at 100-200 yards was pretty cool. Then Steel propane tanks aty 400 yards. I am now looking at getting a 50CAL to take this out even further.

Let me know when you go out there as I am a member.  I go out ther during the week most of the time to avoid the rambos.  I usually spend one day a week playing 3 gun and one day on the long range. I shoot iron sight M1,03A1,K98,m39MN,Marlin 45/70 at 100-500 and at the 1000 I shoot this cheap Savage 10FPEA2 and a little Bushmaster varmit special.  My .308 loves the clays when theirs no wind.

The .308 Win is capable of good accuracy, e.g. shooting holes in nickels at 100 yards, or getting sub-MOA groups all the way out to 1000 yards.  You could shoot even further with the .50 Cal., but for 1000, IMHO you don't need it.

Anyway, I know this is AR15.com, but who would be up for getting a group together at TacPro (or other suitable range) for some long-range precision shooting one of these days?

Went shooting with a member here to TacPro for 1000 yds and man I'll you what: talk about hook, line and sinker.
Now, most of the budget and resources will be directed to this new-found hobby.
Sure, I know it before but have never dared to venture into this 1000 yds territory...Now I'll be.

Have you ever shot long distance UKD's?

RX.  How do you like the Waith?  Did you try from 500-1000 yds yet?
I'll get one .30 later, but don't know which one yet.

It is nice, thread on, very, very quiet on bolt gun. I have only had it out to 400 yards so far. I will bring it to Gunstock.
