I'm looking forward to it. Just a change in scenery. Maybe I'll meet DoubleFeed one of these days and some other Austin members.

I applied to a few positions there. The other one is for Travis County.

I may be moving soon.

Update: They want me to start ASAP. So, what now?

nothing but goths and drag-worms down there.

What's a drag-worm?

Goth girls are attractive. Scary, but attractive.

I'll be on the South side. Wed 2 pm is my meeting. I might just hang out until Thursday. Any good places to shoot around there? I'll bring my guns.

It's up on my bookshelf, right next to LordTrader's Guide to Getting Lucky in Texas.

Funny, they don't take up much room...

Clean-Cut,

Welcome to Austin and good luck with you interview.

There's a public range (hwy290E)about 10 miles or so from I35. They charge 6 bucks a gun. If the interview works out there are other private ranges that are better. PM me if you decide to move to Austin and I can give you the tour.

CC,

good luck!

I got lucky!

They called me today, and I'll be getting the
"actual" offer tomorrow.

I'll be commuting to Louisiana a lot, but so what,,,,,It's a job!

Good Luck Min!

Drag: The stretch of Guadalupe St. that runs N/S along the west side of the UT campus.

Drag-worm: the useless, smelly, wandering vagrants who beg for change along the previously mentioned section.

Unfortunately, unless things have changed, most of the goths there are guys.  Scary.

Good luck to you.  Austin is a wonderful place, especially the farther away from Campus and East Riverside (the ghetto) you get.

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

Good luck.  I recently moved to Temple (Bell County).  I have nothing good to say about Williamson County.  A friend in Caldweld County who is a "top cop" describes Williamson County as insane in that anything more than spitting on the sidewalk is a capital offense.

I agree 1000% with that comment.  Enjoy Austin (strong words from an Aggie).

On the north side.

Spend that free time finding an apartment.
Pack, move and don't look back.

What part of town will you be working in?  I guaran-damn-tee you that you will not want to put up with Austin rush hour traffic too much.

Off South Mopac next to Zilker Park.

What's a good area - North, South, East, West?

Shoot, if I could ditch the car and ride my bike to work, all the better.

Find something as close to work as you can afford.  Traffic will eat up $'s in time and gas, not to mention wear and tear on your brain.

Use your good judgement when looking for a place.  Don't jump on something close and low rent just because it is close and low rent.  There are some rough areas close to your new workplace.
IMO, an apartment on the north side of town is good.

Not an environmentalist per se, but more like a backlash against spending a good chunk of my time (or more) in the car here in Houston.

I'll try to fit in the bike culture in Austin, as I used to be really into bicycling (before guns), but I will never be a hippie lib.

Check out Pflugerville north of Austin. My wife's brother lives there and it seems to be a nice place. Traffic into Austin might be a problem though. I can hook you up with a real estate agent if you are looking for a house

Look into the Austin Rifle Club. The range is in about the same area as the other range mentioned, but you pay an annual membership fee instead of "per visit."

Oh, and welcome to Austin! I'm moving out in about a week, because I'm fresh out of the DPS academy and Freeport is my first duty station, so the traffic issues should balance.

I will be back, however...
