although I'll be voting for Kevin Brady's replacement out here in the burbs,
a friend of mine pulled this off a Houston newsgroup, thought you inner-loopers might find it interesting:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the guys posting to the tx.guns newsgroup had written to
Congressman Gene Green inre the Assault Weapons Ban Sunset next
September. Below is the respons he got from the Congressman.
The reference to Senator Kaye Bailey Huthison (aka BigHair) is inre a
letter some had received from her saying she was going to study the
issue.

Just as an example of a counterpoint to Senator Hutchinson's letter,
let me share the letter I just received today from Rep. Gene Green:

Dear Mr. McGrew:
Thank you for contacting me regarding your opposition to the
semi-automatic weapons ban in the 1994 Crime bill. I appreciate
hearing your views on this issue.
Under Texas law we have the right to protect ourselves or our property
in self-defense. I am opposed to restricting law abiding citizens'
access to firearms. Gun control proposals may be well intentioned
when the aim is to reduce crime, but these laws simply do not work.
Criminals continue to gain access to guns, and restricting the ability
of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves is not a solution to our
overall crime problem. As a result, I will not support efforts in
Congress to extend the semi-automatic weapons ban when it sunsets next
year.
Thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to do so again in
the
future.
Sincerely, Gene Green
