curious what the depth of this one was.  And does a shallow 3.3 feel different than a 3.3 four miles down?
Link Posted: 6/29/2022 3:17:25 PM EDT
[#2]
2.7km deep according to the USGS. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=se60401376&extent=1.40611,-151.08398&extent=60.28341,-10.45898&listOnlyShown=true

The 3.4 on the 26th was 3.5km deep.

ETA
2.1 on the follow up at 14:57 (2.2km deep).

Number 3 was a 1.9 at 15:02 (2.9km deep)

I heard it to the east and south from my volcano lair in the Greater Irmo-Chapin Metroplex.  As usual, nothing shook the pile of shale rock we sit on out here around Sleep Number and the I-26 Broad River Road Japanese car automall exit.

I was outside paying the bill for a rehab job on my 20 year-old deck.  I'll keep throwing money at this Mungo-built dump, I suppose.  The ancient Atlantic seashore in this area may just become beachfront again at this rate.

Seriously though, the deck crew started taking calls from family.  Lots of house-shaking and hanging plants swinging ensued after the rumble.

USGS saying a 3.4.  #s 2, 3 and 4 were small.

Yep, Another one just rolled through the area at about 7:15 while WIS news was on. They said they felt it on air. Prelim. rating was 3.4 for this one, but it felt a little stronger here than the mid afternoon one.

Upgraded to a 3.6

Yeah.  The 3.6 at 7:03 PM last night finally rattled dishes here.

Good to see now that the Town of Elgin will hold a townhall meeting abou the earthquakes.  They need to put a stop to this nonsense.

Some nutcase emailed me at work about doing an Earthquake exercise/drill because this gave her flashbacks from living in CA.

I worry about shit we can prepare for, like 70+ F16s and Hurricanes that come yearly.

She is an idiot.

I'd tell her she's weak and should go back to California, but I'm an ass.    Of all of the things on my "area survey" of that can go wrong, an earthquake is not one that I'm worried about.  Never say never, but yeah, I'm not doing earthquake drills- and I still remember duck and cover and don't stare are the bright flash drills in the seventies.

I caught a quick glimpse of the ticker tape scrolling on the morning news saying they found out what is causing the earthquakes. Nothing on the actual news. Does anybody know what they discovered?

So, prehistoric giant piranha swimming up from the deep bowls of the earth? I'm in. What's the daily limit and size?

Wouldn't it be wild if a crack large enough to divert most of not all of the river opened up?

I thought Elgin held a townhall meeting and was going to take care of this problem.  I am disappoint.

If they need money to stop this insanity, just take a page from the Richland/Columbia playbook.  Open a 501(c)(3) organization.  Give it a woke name ... "Coalition to Stop Subterranean Violence Against Trans Children." Put out a couple press releases.  Do a street theater thing for El Tee Ex to show on the teewee.  Extort funding from county and state governments.  Get a federal grant.  Profit.
