We are a 6-man group from Florida. We do a couple of week-long trips a year and we have our sites on Idaho for July this year. What do you local guys suggest for a good river that we can spend a week floating, paddling, and camping on? We generally do canoes. I've heard rafts are the way to go out there.

Disclaimer: We've done over 1,000 miles of river camping. One of our best was 115 miles through the Yukon Flats completely off the grid being flown in and out by small aircraft. Nothing is too hardcore for us, but, at the same time we don't mind easy and enjoyable also.

Please give me some input! Thanks!

The Salmon River is the official big draw, most popular river in Idaho.  Lots of outfitter/guides in Riggins, ID make their living doing everything you just mentioned.
Honorable mention goes to: the Payette, Lochsa, and maybe the St. Joe (might not be long enough).

In Idaho?  You want to do the Salmon, that is one of the premier river camping trips in the country!

Thanks for the responses. So, would canoes be the way to go or rafts? What's a good section for a week long trip. We want to do at least two two-night camps. Not looking to hit any big rapids, but, a little whitewater isn't too bad either.
