I picked up some CCI Large pistol primers and when I got home I realized they were magnum. Shame on me for not double checking. I picked up the large pistol primers with the intention of reloading 45 ACP using bullseye. Can I still use the magnum primers and go lighter on powder? Has anyone used magnum primers for 45 ACP? Thanks

You can... I would just drop your powder charge by .2 grains or so. Realistically, as long as you're not at the top of the range with your loads, the change to magnum primers will have little effect on overall pressure. You'll see maybe a 30fps increase in velocity, hence the recommendation to reduce the charge weight slightly to compensate. The .45ACP operates at fairly low pressures to begin with, and gives you a lot of safety margin (as compared to, say, .40S&W - talking 23Kpsi vs 35Kpsi).

I've do it for years. Just stay away from the max loads and you won't even notice a difference.

Where did you find the primers?

Solid info Gents!

Just check for the usual: head spacing/cartridge growth/length, primer/primer pocket deforming or flattening, or "deeper" firing pin penetration, case expansion, bulging.
