I'll be in Maui for one day and want to do some snorkeling. Online I'm seeing two good-looking tourist packages including kyaking. One is out of Kapalua and the other from Makena.

I'm kind of a loner and not a huge fan of group activities. Should I do one of these packages or go on my own somewhere? Where is there good snorkeling I can get to without a kyak?

Thanks.

JCK,

One day? Depends what part of the island you'll be staying. If you're on the westside (Lahaina), go to Kapalua Bay for snorkeling, if you'll be on the southside (Kihei) go to Ahihi Bay (marine preserve).

Reason is traffic nowdays is horrendous on the island with so many cars on the little roads we have. Since you have only one day, don't spend part of it  in traffic.

You can rent your snorkel gear from Snorkel Bob's or Maui Dive Shop, they have several places around the island.

Have fun and don't forget to use sunscreen hock.gif
