I like that area.  Always wanted to move back there (went to ETSU).  Never did because I couldn't ever find a job.

Good luck.

Plenty of schools around.

Johnson City is growing as far as all the service industries go. Restaurants and stores are multiplying. The outskirts are still quiet. I just moved  from Gray in May of this year. We're already thinking about moving back next year. The area has some incredible outdoor activities in close range.

Hmm Plenty of High schools one that comes to mind is Science Hill. Plenty of Univ./Colleges in the area: ETSU, Northeast State, King (I believe). I wouldnt recomend living in JC directly, go for outskirts. Plus you have and easy route if you have to commute (81). East TN is a great place to live. Weather aint too bad either, Humid at times but not bad.

I like the area a lot, I have entertained the idea of moving up that way eventually.

If you decide to look at the Chattanooga area, let me know and I will show you around.

TN is a good place to work.

KY always needs teachers too.

Housing prices are skyrocketing.

If you're going to teach in JC or the outlying schools (Washington, Carter, Unicoi counties), look for housing around Unicoi.  More rural, but quite close to I-26 and only 20 minutes or so from Johnson City.

Gray is nice, but good luck finding anything cheap.

Watch out for 2002 or so mustangs on I-26 - I know the cops have a gray one and a white one they use to gather revenue with around JC
