So as some of you may know, I am the captain of the Pistol Team at the University of Utah.  Yesterday I had the chance to spend some time with our fine new President, Michael Young and his lovely wife, Susan.  He wanted to meet with our team and do a little shooting at our range.  We had some nice conversation.  He is pro-gun and an okay shot (for a beginner).  His wife was also excited to shoot and wasn't hesitant about trying out new things.  I would say that this little meeting scored us some  points with the university, heck, we may even get a new range out of it.

Honestly, with this guy, I bet we don't hear anything more about that.  It was an obvious ploy by former pres. Machen to get himself into a more liberal school.  Man that guy was an idiot.

Cool man.

Is there a range at UofU?

I'll be transferring there from Weber either this coming Spring semester or next Fall. I'd be interested in getting into some shooting sports if they are available.

Any info on this would be great.

Thanks

Well, UofU isn't so bad afterall.

As a BYU fan, I'll admit I root for UofU when they play out of conference.

Yeah, let me know when you transfer.  We do mostly international (olympic) shooting.  It is a great place to meet some like-minded individuals.

What about the shooting range in the basement of the Naval Sciences building? Is that open to the public? It's good that you can now legally carry a gun on the University of Utah campus.

Just moved to UT a couple months ago.  When I went through my CCW course here we were told of the problem with UofU but were also told that since the school is a state school the courts had ruled that they could not enforce the CW ban on campus.

We had a state trooper run us through the course who is very active in the IDPA or IPSC world (can't remember which one) and stays very active on the political side as well.  Excellent course and very cheap compared to the courses in Arizona.  Anyway, he told us that the UU problem had been resolved recently.

Does anyone have any confirmation of this? I sure would like to know. I have some calls in to folks in govt that should be able to answer this. I'll post what I hear back.

I sure wish CCW instructors would stick to the facts. Here is what I recieved today from the AG's office:

Mr. Adams,

Thank you for writing to the Utah Attorney General's Office.  However, the case was argued before the Utah Supreme Court and we are waiting a decision. Our office has no control when a ruling will be issued.

I trust you will find this information helpful.

Edited:

In my book AGs office trumps State Trooper.

Does anyone know when the State Supreme court first heard this issue?
