More goats are killed in Holley
By Carrie Petersen For the Gazette-Times HOLLEY — Four more goats have been shot and killed on the same property near Holley where at least six goats were killed with a small-caliber gun in August.
Two other goats are missing, and the owner believes they also were shot and then ran into the brush and died there.
“I think it was more than a random act,” said Randy Schoonover. He and his wife, Tami, own the Boar goats, which are meat animals.
The shootings happened sometime between 6 p.m. Saturday and Monday morning, when the dead goats were found, Randy Schoonover said.
In August, the Schoonovers found six of their goats had been shot and killed along a path leading to their bedding area.
This time the circumstances were the same, Schoonover said. “They were shot in the neck over a large area, chased down and shot one by one.”
Following the August shooting, one goat went missing and still hasn’t been found. With the thick blackberry bushes on the property, Schoonover doesn’t expect to find any of the missing animals.
While searching the area where the goats were found, they discovered a young bobcat that had been shot and killed, also with a small-caliber gun.
A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.
The reward began at $500 and has grown over the last five weeks after friends, family and community members offered additional funds.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shootings. Anyone with information can call the Linn County Sheriff’s Tip Line at 866-557-9988.
