I would attend, with signifigant other, as long as it was on a weekend and semi-local to the RTP area. Friday or Saturday evening would be fine, later is better. I'm thinking Ruby Tues, TGIF type place, but I'm open to whatever.
Hell, I'd even host a sit around the bonfire, cook a deer roast, lots of coldbeer type get together if someone else would help with the logistics and supplies. |
Sounds good to me. |
Drat. How about Sunday 12/11? The only other weekend I am off is Saturday 11/24 so I guess we would have to eat chinese that night. We could always bump it back to January.
I have the first week of the year off, College football on. So 1/6 looks good so far. |
I would be down for a dinner...the bonfire sounds really cool too. It'd be cool to meet some of the fellow ARFCOMers.
Got a question though, what's the average age of you guys? I'm a young pup (20) and I get along fine with people who are older, but I'm just wondering if an age difference would cause a weird dynamic. Oh yeah, I'm in Raleigh, near NCSU. |
All the NC crew that I've met so far has been between 25-45. Having a common interest in black rifles, and shooting in general, gives people of different age groups a common thread. I wouldn't worry about the "dynamics".
ETA: I like the bonfire idea also. |
Gimmee - don't sweet the dynamic friend, us old farts ain't that bad, once you get used to the smell!
25-45 ! hey that makes ME the old man!!! The wife says I act like a child though, wonder what she means? u352 - let us know we'll try to make it out of the woods, hell I'll even wear shoes if its a "nice" place! |
That's what I figured, just wanted to make sure. I'll keep an eye on this for when the dinner happens. |
Im 25, but I usually hang out with older folks anyways. My best friend is 38, so no probs there.
Sheesh... Now I REALLY feel old..... 25 to 45? Could we add a handful or so more years to that?
Guess I need to see if I can find a manufacturer that makes a tactical walker that I can replace the bi-pod with.... Maybe an orthopedic adjustable stock? How about a medicare discount for generic ammo... Hey! Did ya know that polygrip works like blue locktite? FFF |
We agreed on a date now where do ya'll want to eat?
There is a a Ruby Tuesdays on Fayetteville rd and 54. There is an O'brians at 55 and 54. Or the bonfire, or one now one later. |
Count me in if there's still room. Bonfire, restaurant, whatever...sounds like fun. Anywhere in the Triangle works for me.
How about the Carolina Ale house near Briarcreek? I haven't been there yet, but I've been to others and it was pretty cool. They have Sam Adams on tap!
don't know where that is exactly. might be in for it if i'm in the area.
Sam adams on tap.......count me in! Will this be a "bring the spouse" thing? Hopefully so! You know, not to get all wierd, but there is another thread about where you gonna go when the bad stuff hits the wheel that spins. A meet and eat would be great so we can all get to know each other better. In interesting times, especially in an urban area, it sure would be good to have friends around. Don't worry, I am off the soapbox!
where is Briarcreek? Sounds like a winner! |
Doubt I'll make a triangle get together, as I'm @100 miles from Raleigh, but a meet in Burlington/Greensboro/Winston wouldn't be out of the question
Briar Creek is near the airport (RDU) on Hwy 70. Its a big shopping area w/Dicks sporting goods and lots of restaurants . Carolina Ale house is on Hwy 70, not far from where TW Alexander and 70 meet.
Ira, I was hoping others would bring spouses. I'll be brining mine...shit, someone has to drive home! The "women-folk" can all get together and talk about how much money we waste on toys...etc etc. Here is a map to the restaurant : www.carolinaalehouse.com/location.php
Based on past gatherings of this nature, neither of us should be capable of driving back |
Carolina Ale House it is.
Trog and Five my luxurious floor is always open to ya'll. |
ETA:The website doesn't list the Brier Creek location. I will scout the address and put up a map. |
So...no bonfire? I'm guessing the Carolina Ale House wouldn't appreciate us roasting a deer in their parking lot.
I'm considering it (I live in the Piedmont Triad area). Maybe we should get something setup for our neck of the woods at a later time as well. |
Well no wonder I couldn't make heads or tails of that map. I was begining to think there was deep truth to that whole "women can't read (or fold) maps". Cary is still better. Well closer. Right, u352? Deer and bon fire also sound good, as long as it isn't BYOD (bring your own deer). |

WHOA BOY.....I didn't think LaBelleRebel would be attending. I've got the wife convinced that all the Arfcommers are conservative Christian married guys who won't corrupt me, so she lets me hang out with ya'll. LeBelle, you better bring a date, otherwise I'll never be allowed out of my cage again!!
I'll bring a date. My non-social self needs to get out more (or so I've heard).
I'll be working on getting some more venison this weekend. I've got 5 more tags to fill.
I'm a huge fan of bonfires, venison and adult beverages so the next get together, we'll do the bonfire thing at my bug out land. This time we'll keep in civilized. Next time its a kegger! Nothing is as much fun as watching people get shit faced drunk, act like fools and puke in the bushes! (except taking pics and posting them on the net!) |
OK, so if I'm reading this right we'll meet at the Carolina Ale House on HWY 70 on Jan 6th. What time?
How about 8am for us night owls. 8pm is fine with me. |
8pm on 01/06, at briar creek! My wife and I will be there! I can't wait! This is awesome!
It looks like me and my wife will be attending as well! looking forward to it.
Oh wait till they meet my wife! Precious metals to her are steel, lead and brass. Ask her what she got for her birthday! Hope i can come up with the cash for her X-mas gift- IOR optics for her next build. We'll try our best to be there! |
I scoped out Carolina Ale House today. 7981 Skyland Parkway , Raleigh near Durham county line. Here is a map.

I think we should make reservations for a large table. Sounds like it'll be a good turnout...
To those of you who I haven't met yet, looking forward to it. To those of you who I have met, first rounds on me! |
Good Idea! Start giving me Positives or maybes and + any number you will be bringin. I will keep a tally on the first post.
Put me down for POSITIVE. I'll bring the wife if that's what we're all doing but I'll have to find a sitter. |
