Several years ago my Brother did a Texas heart shot, but unintentionally. Weirdest damn thing we could not find the entry wound. But dropped the deer in its tracks.

The stand I posted earlier just isn't in as nice of a spot as it looks. This afternoon I went down to a different stand, with some low expectations. I didn't even bring my rifle. I figured I'd just enjoy being in the woods in unusually nice weather, and if a deer came by close enough for an archery shot, I'd use my .357. Two does came by around 3pm, so I picked the slightly larger one. She ran about 30 yards and dropped.

No pics from me. I culled a forky spike, and my SIL shot a 6 pointer before 8:00 on Saturday.
His first time deer hunting, I told him to enjoy the day, it isn't like this very often.

That first weekend was a total anomaly weather wise. Normally the deer are moving for the rut around us but I think they were still just packing on weight because they could still eat lots of greens. This coming weekend will be more like hunting season to me.

It was 70 Saturday in my stand, and 24 on Tuesday.

We got three for the 2 of us, but it was odd just dropping everything to skin, quarter, and get each one into the fridge ASAP. Usually, when its 40 or colder, we field dress it, hang it, and do the work after hunting hours are over.

Exactly why my dad, uncle, and I agreed that we weren't going to rush all that unless it was a good sized buck! I hate being rushed on that stuff.

I kept getting a file size error when trying to post a pic, so I ended up taking a screenshot of the pic and posting the screenshot. I dunno... I suck at anything involving tech...

...Anyways, I got this guy with my bow in early October. That's the entry wound. The exit wound was lower.

Also got a doe with my bow last Saturday. I'd like to get two more does in the freezer before I call it quits.

90+ pounds of sausage and burger ground up and vacuum sealed.

Roasts and backstraps were already in the freezer.

Haven't been in this forum for a bit.

I got this guy early the Tuesday morning after opener weekend (Nov 10th), which is the day the weather turned colder around the Cities.

170LB 8pt, green scored 106 5/8". Shot outside of Watertown but within the metro deer zone. Not the biggest guy taken here, but roughly tied for the 2nd biggest.

Here is the recovered .300BLK bullet fired from my pistol. It was poking through the hide on the opposite side after going through a shoulder.

Barnes 110gr TAC-TX factory load. It's a hell of a bullet for short range whitetail hunting.

I've taken 6 deer with it and none have gone more than 40yds. I try not to take marginal shots though with a borderline underpowered .30 cal bullet.

Had this little spike bed down 25 yards from me and take a nap for an hour and a half this morning. Kinda neat. It got old fast though, because I had to pee but didn't want to get busted in case there were other deer around. I thought it was antlerless when I first saw it, and came close to shooting it. Glad I didn't. His ears were hiding his little antlers at the angle I had when he walked into range.

It's pretty cool just watching them sometimes. Especially the young ones because they don't have the fear/instinct that older deer have earned.

A couple years ago I walked to my stand (the same one I shot the big guy from a couple posts up), put bibs and a parka on, toe warmers in my boots, climbed into my stand, etc and about an hour later I noticed a deer head shaped "tree branch" down a shooting lane from the stand. --Twilight messes with the eye, or so I thought.

It kept getting lighter and lighter until it was full light and I could make out no less than 3 deer bedded down not more than 40yds from my stand LOL. They stayed in place until about 8am and then got up and scampered off to go on about their day.

Another time I was field dressing a doe with the assistance of my dad over in Wisconsin. The doe had run 125yds into a THICK swampy area after I shot her with a 7 Mag

. We'd just found the doe and I was gloving up to dress her when we heard a branch snap and froze.

Turns out there were two does walking through and they passed within 10yds of us and never saw or smelled us. I was hoping for a buck because I would have plugged him right there (we were out of doe tags).

Deer do weird things and I'm sure we all have stories of funny actions they've taken if we've hunted enough years.
