Is the mac 12 legal in ct?  Any preban macs allowed or no go since they specify types with the mac?

Yes the .380 Cobray M12 is legal. A friend of mine recently purchased one and I have seen them at various gunshops in the past few months.

Who has it? Thought it would fall under Mac type?

I think it means mac 10 or 11 type, just like ak 47 type doesn't mean the ak 74.   Although the m 11 can shoot a 380 in full auto...

It was purchased from Sportsmans Outpost in Wolcott. I have also seen them at Valley firearms in Ansonia/Shelton and JoJo's in Southington.

It's too easy to get in trouble with these confusing laws

To play "devil's advocate" - what is it about a "MAC 12" "type" that makes it different from a MAC 10 or MAC 11 "type"?

(Type: NOT DEFINED IN STATUTE)

The mac 10 and 11 don't shoot 380 unless you are talking about the m11-a1 which is only full auto.  Can you have a pre ban mac 11 or mac 10 in ct?  I assume no like the ak 47/type chambered in 7.62x39.  I wanted to buy an open bolt...

The only legal pre-ban MACs in CT are those that were purchased and registered as AWs from the 1993 Ban. Nowhere in the statute does it address caliber. Only "Type"

"TYPE" is not defined in the statute and I am unaware of any MACs being treated the way that AK "types" have been since 2002 (7.62x39 caliber being the only prohibited version) There is NOTHING in State Statute that provides for that. It is merely the opinion and direction of CT State Police SLFU - at the present time.(actually since Lt. Robert Keihm signed that letter we've seen posted here from time to time)

It can change tomorrow. I haven't seen a MAC -anything for sale in any CT gun store since the 2002 debacle

The statute states Mac 10 or 11 type that is why the Cobray M12 .380 is legal for sale in CT.

Perhaps - but the word "TYPE" is the problem

The CT AW ban doesn't name the Romanian AK clones SAR-1 or WASR, or the MAK-90 either - yet they are re-banned as "AK types"

It has to pass the duck test.

I find it hard to believe that Valley Firearms would have any questionable items in their stock, they dont even deal with preban ARs from i understand.

There are 2 MAC type firearms at JoJos right now, both are NFA items and do not have to abide by the CT AWB.
