I have been reading about the GOP hopefuls talking about the official language of the United States. It still amazes me that this is even a topic for debate. As I was digging through VA code I did notice this: § 1-511. English designated the official language of the Commonwealth. English shall be designated as the official language of the Commonwealth. Except as provided by law, no state agency or local government shall be required to provide and no state agency or local government shall be prohibited from providing any documents, information, literature or other written materials in any language other than English. If the state can do it, why not the nation? We fought an entire war over that exact issue. They won. |
