I will be in  WV mid April to enjoy the Hatfield McCoy trail sytem with a bunch of friends.  I have a CCW license for ohio, and I know that WV does not reciprocate.  But from what I have gathered, it is OK for me to carry open, as long as I am legally allowed to have a handgun, whether I am from Ohio or WV.  Am I correct?  Also, can I take a firearm on the trail system, open carried?

Kind of complicated and subject to trying to educate a lot of officers who do not know the law, but this site may be helpful to you.
