ISRA: Commissioner Suffredin Moves Forward With Plan to Disarm Lawful Citizens Despite Katrina Horror Stories

CHICAGO, Sept. 8 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

The Cook County (IL) Board failed to act today during its regularly scheduled meeting on a proposal that would result in the banning and forced confiscation of various types of firearms owned by law-abiding county residents. Although no action was taken today, the proposal's sponsor, Commissioner Larry Suffredin, indicated that he would push forward with his plan to have a vote taken on the matter in the near future.

Suffredin's proposal is being considered while nation shakes its head in disbelief over stories of barbaric gang rapes, robberies and brutal subjugation of hurricane refugees by marauding bands of criminals. Wire stories today report that, in response to widespread lawlessness in the Gulf States, law- abiding citizens are purchasing firearms in record numbers.

"Despite all that has happened in the past week, Larry Suffredin is marching 180 degrees out of step with the rest of America," commented ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. "We're hearing horrible stories of men, women, children and the elderly being robbed, raped and sodomized by New Orleans gang members. We're seeing these same gang members being evacuated and transplanted to other areas of the country where they continue to threaten peaceable citizens. As with 9/11, the good people of this country are learning the hard way that they cannot rely on the government to protect them - that's why they're flooding gun shops in search of the added security provided by a defensive firearm."

"It's with utter arrogance that Larry Suffredin asserts that he knows what's best for Cook County residents," said Pearson. "Suffredin unabashedly stands before the good people of Cook County to assure them that, in weakness there is strength, and that they'd be much safer if they were disarmed. The people know that the best defense is a good offense. That's why they're lining up in droves to buy guns of their own."

"I suspect that this all comes down to situational ethics," continued Pearson. "I wonder how tightly Suffredin would clasp to his self-righteously indignant hatred of firearms if he found himself in a Superdome washroom, cornered in a toilet stall by a trio of thugs. I suspect that his attitude would change drastically."

"The ISRA plans to keep close tabs on Suffredin's proposed ordinance and our members will keep the pressure up on Cook County commissioners, urging them to reject this unwarranted and unwise gun confiscation proposal."

FYI:

There are some "evacuees" being housed at the former Tinley Park Mental Hospital.

I'm sure 98% are decent folks..............
