From northern LaSalle county equidistant between DeKalb and Ottawa. Retired cop and retired soldier. Just built my third and fourth PSA lowers. Have mounted a CMMG A2 on the first (my son's) and I mounted a MOE-PSA mid length on the second. Waiting for a mock -dissapator for the third (PSA) and saving bucks to buy a fourth upper probably  a light weight carbine length.

Definitely a prepper now, the global economy is beginning to look a little strained

I've been in the forums forever, but this is my first time venturing into the "hometown" section.

Name:  My name is Michael, but I'm typically referred to as "Leo Atrox" in any online forum (bullitin boards, YouTube, Xbox, etc.). My friends call me "Leo" for short ... Even some of the ones that I know in person.
Location:  I'm currently residing in McHenry County. I made my way to Illinois after marrying a resident while I was serving in the Marine Corps. In my opinion, Illinois basically sucks; but McHenry country is alright.
What  I do:  I'm a technology engineer developing and maintaining endpoint management solutions. (I make sure more than 20,000 computers can be upgraded and maintained effectively and efficiently.)
My shooting interests:  I guess you'd call it "tactical" or "practical" shooting. I love shooting, but I really don't have time to be a recreational shooter.

I never shot a firearm until the Marine Corps put a rifle in my hands. Now I own several AR's of various varieties and calibers. I like to assemble them myself, but I do have an original model Barrett Rec7 and a POF-308 that are basically factory guns. My current go-to gun is a direct-impingement 5.56 NATO AR carbine built with forged receivers and FailZero EXO coated internals (and upper receiver). In addition to several AR's, I also own a Sig Sauer P226 SCT, a Smith & Wesson M&P-9 VTAC, Benelli M4 Tactical, and a basic Ruger 10/22. My "practical shooting" interests inform my purchasing decisions. Once I'm satisifed with "tactical capabilities" I'll likely move on to more "fun guns" ... I love historic arms, so I'll probably buy a lot of early 20th century war guns, as well as reproductions of pre-20th century firearms. I have a particular desire to get an 1860 Henry and a Smith & Wesson Model 3 (Schofield) revolver, which both hold special places in firearms history. I doubt I'd be able to get them both in .44 Henry rimfire since the ammo is not available, but I think Uberti makes reproductions of both in .44-40 and .45 Colt.

I am a member at Aurora Sportsman's Club, although I don't get out there often because of the distance between my home and the Club.

Prerty mechanically inclined, self taught noviice gunsmith. (replaced hammer, D spring, trigger, guide rod etc on Beretta 92FS, other mods on some other guns too. Currently living in the Western suburbs (Naperville-Bolingbrook-Aurora area)

I’m a former USAF Security Policeman and carried an M-16 daily as my duty weapon when I was active duty. Carried a S&W .38 (model 10) as a bank security guard for a while after that.

I honestly don’t own any firearms right now and I haven’t been shooting since the late 90’s, though I used to regularly. I’ve wanted an AR-15 since I got out, but never bought due to financial reasons. Same for handguns, other than the .38 I needed for work.

Now that all hell is breaking loose with pending anti-gun legislation, I figured its now or never and I have been researching what I want and what I can actually afford. Looking for a reliable AR-15 (something like the S&W M&P15) and a handgun - 9mm, .40, or .45 (considering S&W, Glock, Springfield, RIA, Beretta, Colt). Need to get to a local range and start some hands-on research.

Also joined the NRA and GOA for good measure.
