I was down at the SPD range today with a couple of friends shooting my AR.  While we were there, a couple of salesmen showed up to demo this monster for SWAT:

Accuracy International AW 50
SPECIFICATION
Caliber .50 BMG (12.7 X 99)
Heavy match grade Fluted Barrel length 27 inches with muzzle brake
Barrel twist 1 in 15
Magazine capacity 5 shot
Weight 30 lb / 13.5 kg
Overall Length 53.3 in / 135 cm (Folded 43.5 ins / 110.5 cm)
Color Black or Green
Two stage, fully adjustable Trigger set to 4 lb
Full length aluminum folding chassis enclosed by scuff resistant polymer stock sides
Rear Support leg
Machined wrought steel action body

... all for the, low, low price of $11,000 (scope not included)!

Definitely the LOUDEST gun I have ever FELT (standing 15 feet away from the shooter).  First shot set off a car alarm and everyone cheered.

The SWAT guys had to admit that the department would probably never sign off on one at that price, but at least they'd have fun looking.

Seattle PD with a 50 cal?
Shit that'd be the last straw and I'd go get one too(Armalite not the AI $11K !! ouch!)

I'd love to see how SPD could TRY to justify a valid use for that in Seattle.

I think the guy who builds them or sells them was at the GF pit a couple years ago.
He was letting anyone who wanted to shoot at some targets on the far side of the pit.
I think he was using milsurplus ammo too.
Some young girl shot a couple rounds through it, it didn't look like it kicked that hard for her.
The noise was something else though.

I'm surprised at you for saying that...
I'd be all FOR it just to hear what they have to say to justify it!
It'd drive the Liberals in the city gov't. into fits.
Does kinda make a guy want to have a 12.7 X 99, though.
Has a nice ring to it, no?

Couldn't have been. That's an Accuracy Internation gun, it's a British company.

Maybe you saw the fella that makes the EDM Windrunner?
He does come to the WAC shows sometimes.  Nice fella he is.

PS if you think the Windrunner is way too expensive don't look at the price on the AI gun.

Busmaster I'm going to say this.  If the SPD needs a 50 then damnit I do too the Visa card be damned!

Long time ago.
