Girlfriend has a timeshare in the Pocono's. Going to be spending a week or so there at the end of the month. Any local Gunshops ? Breweries ? Anything worth seeing in that area ?

I will most likely head to Scranton for a day of goofing off at Steamtown, and other stuff, so if anybody knows any cool places to hang out there that would be cool to.


I don't have much experience traveling to the Eastern side of the state, and have not been anywhere north of Scranton since 1983.

It's the Poconos, lots of touristy stuff to do. As far as micro breweries, Barley Creek is supposed to be good, never been there though. The Barley creek tasting room and pub is at the south end of the Crossings in Tannersville. There's the Pocono brewery in Swiftwater also, I been there. Pretty good. Good food good beer.

What part of the Poconos are you going to be in and what kinda stuff you looking to do?

Going to be at Split Rock Resort, or whatever it is called now (Some Mexican company has bought it and is doing a major upgrade).

I am not familiar with the area at all. I did not know it was pretty much out in the middle of nowhere. Most of the activities at the Resort are closed, and we are not going to be doing any skiing or anything like that. She likes to do the hiking thing. And the shopping thing. I like do to museums, historical stuff, gun shops, and beer and food.

She and her daughter usually go and spend the entire time in water, at either a pool or water park of some sort. Not going to happen on this trip. It's just us and only water I care about is if I need to add some to Whiskey or if it involves fishing.

there's a ton of indoor waterparks. My grandson works at Great Wolf. Camel Beach and Kalahari are indoor waterparks also. They all will be like 10 miles East of Splitrock. The micro breweries I mentioned are pretty close to the waterparks I mentioned. Historic stuff is sort of nonexistent around here. There are some, but pretty boring. Especially at this time of year. The area is pretty touristy. There are lots of lakes for fishing, the ice will be gone soon. Lots of places for hiking. I'm sure Splitrock will have a lot of info on local attractions.

Just an FYI, Camel Beach and Barley Creek are really close to each other. They might even have some snow tubing still at Camel Back.

More than just bikes. Inexpensive and you will spend at least 3 hours in there saying “Oh man, that is so fucking cool!” every 5 minutes.

If you want to do awesome natural thing, Rickett’s Glen state park waterfalls. (If they are open. They close the trail for winter because it gets icy)

OP, with that avatar of yours, you should ride down to Pottsville and take the Yuengling Brewery tour.
I picked up a couple tin signs last time I was there.
One of them autographed by Dick Yuengling.
All kinds of swag in the gift shop, tour of the underground caverns they used back in 1800’s, and the tour ends in their pub with all the different types they brew.
There’s a little gem of a car museum  called “Jerry’s Classic Cars” about a mile from the brewery, too.

I will second the tour of the Yuengling brewery. Fun fact, Pottsville has hills that would make a mountain goat cry, so watch where you park.
We were at Barley Creek a few years ago and enjoyed it. The casinos should be open, if you're into that sort of thing.

Had lunch at Barley Creek today, Smoked Meatloaf was very good, and so was their Imperial Stout and Irish Stout.

Saw the shooting range near Camelback today also. Girlfriend dragged me to Country Junction later in the afternoon....that was a rather interesting place.

I will try to hit up Berwick Brewing in a day or two, and the Yuengling tour will also happen soon

Going to be here through Saturday. So i have a few more days of discovering micro breweries, bars, other places to eat.......so far this area is rather interesting.

Damn boyers hardware is only 20 min from country junction. Best damn gun store in the area

611 during rush hour was a real hoot. Hit up Advanced Arms today. That's the most guns I have seen in stock at any place gunshop since October, along with 9mm, .380, and 308 ammo.

Stopped by Steamtown train museum to kick things off this morning, it was pretty cool but a lot of it is closed to the public, so they are not charging an entrance fee. After that I hit up Union Craft House in Taylor PA for some beer & grub. That place was pretty good.

LOL, should seen 611 last summer.

I've never been to Advanced, I'll have to check it out next time I'm up that way.

Best wings and pub in the area is at Pocono Pub on 611 (biker bar-ish but good folks)... Always crowded and never paid attention to the restrictions anyway (good for them). Also, check out Teddy's university on 2nd street in Stroudsburg, dive bar type but best cheesesteaks by far. Pocono Pistol is right down the street and is owned by Dunkelberger's Sporting goods on Main street, Stroudsburg (decent selection at all times and is a stocking dealer for several different brands). Siamsa pub on Main street in Stroudsburg has pretty good food as do a couple of the other ones on Main street. Best Italian restaurant is Trattoria 903 on Route 903, 10 minutes from Jim Thorpe. The owner, Hassan, personally runs the restaurant like a millitary operation every night so service and food are great! You will walk out with a belly busting experience and a desire to return ASAP... Public shooting ranges for the PAGC are in Jim Thorpe on Route 93 (the only 300 yard range in eastern Pa) and also in Tobyhanna on Route 423 (heavily visited by the inner city yutes on the weekends with their bangsticks and entire posse, LOL)... Anything else? Just let me know as I have been in the area for 30 years and was born and raised in the Wyoming Valley, so just reach out if you need a specific recommendation....
