I've lived in AZ for almost 2 years ....

I know guys are reluctant about giving away there shooting spots , and I'm not asking for your best double secret spots , but could I get details on where to go in the desert to shoot ?

I went to Baseline up north off 17 , but what a shithole it was . We even got a flat tire on all the crap that was there .

So if anyone is willing to clue me in to a decent spot , Id appreciate it !

It would always be left cleaner than found !

Thanks ,
and if not not , I get it .

ETA West is better for me .

Can't shoot in the desert(well, really the entire state) until late fall due to fire restrictions.

I only know of a couple spots but they're way north on the 17 past Anthem. I tried my luck driving around out west past the white tanks for hours and was not able to find a spot.

Your best bet is probably Phoenix Rod and Gun Club if you're down that far south.   The public range is open from 7a-11am Saturday and Sunday, no reservations required and even during the crazy time, as long as you get there at 6:45am, I've never had to wait and get right in.  Cheap and shoot as long as you want.

As above.
You can't shoot out in the desert right now with the fire restrictions.

Buckeye shooting range is open.

http://www.phoenixrodandgun.org/ A club with a range in south phoenix
http://www.rsscaz.com/ A club with a range in east Mesa
https://www.azgfd.com/shooting/basf/ A range with clubs in north phoenix.
all 3 have public ranges and competition ranges and active competition groups

Both RSSC & PRGC are true member-run clubs, both lease their dirt (RSSC from AZGFD, PRGC from PHX city park). both have public ranges and hours and members-only ranges and hours (much more enjoyable)

Ben Avery is a AZGFD owned and run facility, landless clubs reserve  the various ranges and run shoots there.

A smaller range, Joe Foss range in Buckeye, an hour west of Phoenix, is run by ASRPA. http://www.asrpa.com/

or wait till it rains and they open up desert shooting

Tonto NF is North and east and has a huge swath of closed-to-shooting areas closer in to town, see the USNF web pages for maps & rules.
BLM is mostly west
Yavapai, Coconino, Kaibab, Apache-Sitgreaves are the NF way up north

no target shooting on State Trust Land, but hunting is OK.

Shoot good

Look for US Forest Land or BLM land. As others have said, they restrict it till we get a few good downpours. I went east of Camp Verde last time on US forest land looking for a new spot.

The same people who wear a sweater in the morning driving a topless Jeep to work when it's below 90F.

Rio Salado Sportsman's Club has a black powder group that shoots once or twice a month and cactus cappers shoots ML at Ben Avery at least once a month.

Cactus cappers blackpowder group at Ben Avery:
"Our next match is Sunday June 20th from 7 am till noon at the small bore range.  Our next practice day is Saturday July 10th.  It is the 10th to avoid forth of July weekend.   Get there early so we can leave before the heat of the day.  The match will start at 8 am.  See you there.  TR"

Rio Salado Black Powder group looks like sunday 27-Jun is the next shoot.
