I went to the San Onofree beach for an annual group picnic and on the way there saw a beautiful Red Porsche 917 Carrera 6 tooling though Irvine traffic. Wow, I can't imagine what that guy is worth. The 917 was painted up for racing with a large Porsche banner around the bottom. About 65 of them were produced and the last one was made in 1964.

Coming back I came across another super car - this one was a Lamborghini so I had to look it up. I know my Porsches. The thing was a Murcielago- worth right about $315,000 and still hand dealer plates on it. It was "can't miss me in traffic" orange and being driven by a 40-something bald white guy. The 6.2L V12 was keeping up with the 80 mph traffic like a good citizen.

Is the Grand Prix of Long Beach in town?

I'd post beach pictures but they'd all violate the swim-suit warning.

Some pictures

Got there early enough to grab a spot facing the beach. We put the easy-ups in a prime location and waited for the group to show up.

Since it's California most of the people were vegans so we cooked up some good eatin' 20 pounds of Santa Marina style tri-tip beef. Is is some of the first batch. The groups down wind of us were hurting.

Here's some for the group - that's my wife standing, my bosses wife sitting down watching her daughter wading out. My friend Mike's son is on the boogie board. Tim's kids are playing catch in the surf.

Nice! Looks like a perfect California weekend. We have a bikini ban here? WTF!!?? For political correctness or are we trying not to offend some of the "he-man woman haters" members that I've noticed from time to time chiming in? I myself like nekkid and half nekkid women.
+1 for the smells of burning animal flesh, properly seasoned of course! Yum, tri-tip roast is sooo good! I Q'd up a few pounds myself 4th of July weekend myself. I work with some Vegan douches......I knew they were crazy when they compared the killing and eating of animals to slavery! Now if they went even further and compared it to the alleged "holocaust" I would have had to bust their lips.

Yeah no swim suit pictures here - even of 40-50 year old ladies (who still look pretty nice IMHO) or 8-year old girls. None of the people I work with are vegans ... that was just for the ant burners who know that all folks who live in California are hippy tofu eating liberals. Even the kids ate tri-tip, no burgers or dogs for these kids.

How was the beach weather? I opted out of making the drive to Coronado Island and stayed local. I finally made my way to the Autry National Center then grilled up a few pounds of steak and salmon.

Considering that 99+% of the time the wind is from the north, east, west or south there an accident wouldn't cause them any problems. Right? Gee Honey you have that special glow about you this evening, have a nice day at the beach?
