I'll be visiting Sea World Orlando over the 4th of July, and I wanted to know if anyone had any details or AARs about the security getting into the park. I want to know if there's metal detectors, wands, bag-checks or all of the above. Has anyone brought anything past security and are there any tips/tricks? First: Spare me the "why even carry? just enjoy yourself". I carry everywhere, all the time, unless there is a REAL legal or practical preventative against it. For example, carrying in Disney is a full no-go, for several technical reasons. But I HAVE carried knives and OC into Universal because their security is lax enough to sneak those in. I do not "just forget about it and enjoy" places, because I am not omniscient and cannot predict trouble. Second: I know full well what the park policy is, and I don't care. Third: I'm looking for specifics. I gave specific feedback in the Universal thread, and that's what I really want. Thanks guys! (Not a lawyer) It is NOT ILLIGAL, but as a private entity they can ask that you return whatever gun/knife/etc to your car, or they can flat out refuse entrance onto their property even if you go back to your vehicle. At that point if you still refuse and try to argue you have a CCW you can be arrested for criminal trespass after being asked to leave. As for Sea World, I don't recall specifically, but they do have metal detectors, wands and checked bags. We were there about 6 months ago and I don't see how I would have been able to make it past security with any type of weapon Also what I have begin to see is the new Evolv detectors, that specifically can identify weapons on a person. I want to say Disney Springs had them earlier this year when we went. I don't remember if Sea World had them though. I imagine those will be the standard moving forward at all parks. |

You're correct as far as being asked to leave, and honestly I accept that risk. Even if I cannot come back in, I'll take the risk. As long as it's not violating the law, I'll disregard policy every single time, and simply tailor what I'm carrying based on: desire to get in and stay in, what I have to lose in terms of time/money if I get kicked out, and probability of being caught. For example, at Universal I snuck in a knife and OC, but didn't see how I could pull off a gun and spare mag as well. Disney I understand is so thorough, that I probably couldn't even get that stuff in. Thank you for the real answer! There's a bunch of people that SAY "become ungovernable", but get scared when talking specifics. |

We get pulled aside for a search everytime we enter any disney property Open a side pocket, pull out a stainless steel sippy cup, and get waved through without another glance. every time. Our stuff rides in the bottom of the baby bag from the parking lot until we get past the gate. Can't speak for seaworld though, never been. |

YMMV I was there a few months ago and they changed procedures. You have to go through metal detectors as you exit the garages walking into Disney Springs. I wouldn’t put anything valuable into the theme park lockers. I did once and it was broken into. |

If they find it, they will ask you to leave. If you refuse you will be trespassed. If you are trespassed, armed and push the issue, you could be charged with armed trespassing that’s a felony in Florida.
I’ve been made once, at Disney Springs while pocket carrying (no way they saw it) a 340pd. They asked me politely to return it to my vehicle. I did so without any issues to re-enter and enjoy the rest of my evening. https://insidethemagic.net/2020/01/armed-man-arrested-disney-springs-ba1/ |

I wish there was a way to know ahead of time what security is like when going to parks and stuff in FL. Virtually every event/attraction in FL is gun free (at least according to signs/info on websites), but only sometimes will the policy be enforced by checkpoints. I hate buying tickets ahead of time and having to ditch my gun/knife last minute in order to get through a checkpoint- I'd rather not do business with folks who have a "hard" no weapon policy.
I've been to Disney/Disney Springs in the last year, and you'd have to be very talented to get past one of those checkpoints with even a pocket knife. Each checkpoint had loads of cops and private security just waiting on someone to make a mistake or be forgetful. As other posters have noted, Disney Springs is extremely open and cannot be secured as well as the main park- I'd definitely carry there if I could get away with it. Busch Gardens also has fairly tight security- I don't think I could even get a pocket knife in there. |

We went last year, had to leave the old Sigs in the car and they had to think a little on my wife's little purple Victorinox classic SD she keeps on her keychain. |

While I had entry tickets, I did NOT have "head of the line" or "reserved seating" for the fireworks. In about May, I got the military free tickets that were good for about 2 months. We're relatively new to the Orlando area, although I spend cumulatively about 10 years stationed in Kings Bay, GA. Every year we would go to St Augustine for the 4th, because the show was incredible, and the show in podunk GA was terrible. We were toying with St Augustine again, but then it occurred to me that we HAD tickets for Sea World, so why don't we go there!? The website indicated that head of line and seating tickets were specific for the day, and were $10 or so (STARTING at $10, which I failed to notice). When it came time to buy the extras, I realized that the HOL tickets were $70 a piece, and the seating was already sold out for the 4th. I said screw that (an extra $500 puts a damper on plans....), and we opted to try a show in Orlando.... Yeah, our decision to go to the "Fireworks at the Fountain" turned out to be terrible. Nothing like a panicked crowd running from what everyone thought was an active shooter to ruin the celebration. On a positive note, I was able to carry everything I wanted though. FML. |

I saw dogs at every entrance, I remember reading a thread in GD awhile back about a guy who got busted by a gun dog and the cops were extremely rude to him when escorting him off property. I'm 99% sure I saw at least 3 different plainclothes dudes carrying SBR bags in Disney Springs. 3 different dudes that had the "grey man" uniform- business casual, sunglasses, lightweight hiking boots. You know, the stereotypical ex-military dude who's trying really hard to blend in. The real giveaway were the Vertx SBR bags- I don't think anybody buys those to carry anything but an SBR. I guess it's cool that they have some armed security, but I'd rather protect myself than rely on someone else even if they're well trained and equipped. |

I would prefer to be able to take the responsibility myself, perhaps in addition to good park security, but lacking that ability it makes the bitter pill a little easier to swallow when the facility takes security VERY seriously. |

He said he was approached by plain clothes guys and questioned, asked to put it in his car. Not knowing the policy he argued, but ultimately complied, or tried to. Dick measuring ensued and they ended up getting law enforcement (Orange County) involved and he had his pistol taken and told to come get it at a later date. He tried unsuccessfully to get it following his visit. It took about 6 months from what I remember for them to release his pistol. (G43). He just found out a few days ago (via his ring camera while at work) that he was charged with a felony for that incident when local deputies came to his house to serve the warrant. He turned himself in after work that evening. It's been 2 years since the incident and they apparently just put in the warrant. |

I didn't mention it in it in the first post because I know it shouldn't matter, but his girlfriend/fiance was with him for the incident (as was his and her respective children) and when he went to retrieve the pistol 6ish months later. She's also a LEO (SO), just with a different county. I'll ask next time I talk to him what the specific charge is. |
