I drove this past Friday out to the job site for the new range located off northlake blvd in west palm beach. they are making very good progress and looks like phase one (rifle ranges) will be open in a month or two. They have the ranges almost done and the roads should be done in a week or two. looks like it will be a very nice facility. Attached File
Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File not much progress, benches now in and parking lot almost done and grass put in. It looks like they did nothing at all on the 200 and 300 yard rifles ranges and not even roofs on those. 100 yard and 50 yard ranges look almost ready to go. No sign of any buildings that I saw in my brief drive through. |

I know the first question will be is it going to be accesable from beeline highway. Right now no we are blocked by the attached photo. Attached File

yes it is a county facility open to the public. Has been in the works for literally 15 years.

|
What's the shooting distance look like?
Any chance they'd allow full auto? |
|
I've actually grown old waiting for that range to be completed; thanks for the update.

Like I said its been at least 15 fuckin years for this project to get going, govt at its finest but now its really happening. There will be 100 yards and 200 and 300 yard positions. Full auto I have no idea, I doubt it as its just a county run public range. Probably going to be a one shot per second type range although that is just a guess I have no facts to go on for my guess.

Excellent news - thanx for the update! I was at the PBSO range this weekend and asked about the public range - they had NO info.

Great update! I went out last month and there is definitely progress! One thing I didn't see was the bathroom and check in building... did you happen to notice it?
|
|
I did not notice as I tried to get in and out in a hurry. I was getting the stink eye from all the workers as I was carefully driving on there newly graded road surfaces etc and past the no trespassing signs.
I will go back in a month or so and post more pictures with an update. They are getting very close, at least for the rifle ranges. |

Thx, can't wait. My son was born in 2000, I remember thinking. Wow I can teach him there when he is 5 or so, uhh no,, he is 16 now and going away to college this summer THANKS OBAMA

You are right this has been going on for at least 15 years. It has been so long that honestly I can not remember. The thing that is really infuriating is that it was "approved" about 15 years ago then it was "funded" about 8 years ago then when the market crashed the money literally disappeared. Now thank god its finally happening.

At least this one did not go the way of the one planned prior to it out by 20 mile bend, by where the sherriff's range is

Any info on what the range will offer (tac range, steel etc) or rules enforced?

I highly doubt that will happen. looks like the whole place will be set up for traditional NRA type "bullseye" shooting. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Any info on what the range will offer (tac range, steel etc) or rules enforced? It should be an organized, clean, we'll run FUDD range open 5 days a week. I predict it will be very busy. Those who want to actually shoot 'alternative' styles will have to drive past it to get to a better range. |

If that is the case Markham is closer to me
Our local options SUCK! |

I believe there will eventually be shotgun clay shooting as well.

Anything new ? My FA Galil will be here soon and needs a place to play.

my first post has a few new pictures in it. parking lot now done and benches and soundproofing are in. I did not see any buildings. maybe they will use a trailer to start operations then build later. No work done on the 200 and 300 yard ranges
The 100 and 50 yard ranges look ready to go. maybe all the rain slowed them down. |
|
Thanks for the updated pictures. Did you notice if those shooting tables were also on the 100 yard range? They would be ok for pistol shooting (standing up) but would be terrible for rifle shooting.
Also, I hope they put some dividers between stations to keep the pistol brass from pelting the guy standing next to you. |

Was out there yesterday and was told that Phase 1 is complete but saw no canopies that the site plan shows on the long range (100, 200, 300 ft.). Person had no word on when it will be open. He surmised that it might open with the completion of phase 2! From my perspective that is a long way off since Phase 1 doesn't seem to be completed and Phase 2 grading seems to have just started. I got there directly from Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd.

hoping they aren't as strict here as they are at the PBSO range, also hope there is steel
|

I called FWC today and asked them about the 200/300 yard range. They said that it is still planned on being built but they are going to finish the other side of the range first.
Sounds to me like a lack of funds to complete phase 1, but hopefully we will get the whole range completed this year. |
|
very disappointing about the 200/300 yard ranges. I thought it was supposed to be part of phase one.
Typical govt project. They have made an ordinary 100 yard range just like everyone else and let the much harder to find and useful 300 yard range wait. |
|
I'm bummed about it too, although they did say that it was going to be built.
I heard from a reliable source that they are trying to get the range ready before hunting season starts. They want to hold the hunter safety class out there (in Corbett) and they want to use the range for the shooting part of the class. So it seems that the funds are limited right now and they are trying to get half the range open before fall instead of delaying the whole thing. |
