WOW. I was a bit intimidated having never shot a 30 cal MBR before, but this is a sweet shooting design.
Specifically, it is the PTR 91 F. I bought the package that
Atlantic Arms offers that includes the collapsing stock. Out of the box it gives a good impression, fit and finish are good. I felt that getting the collapsible stock now was a good deal as the supply of wide forearms from JLD is currently dry, but they can be found used at good prices (OD on the way, courtesy of Gunbroker).
The cocking handle movement was stiff initially, as was drift pin removal and replacement when swapping stocks. After going through the procedure a few times it is not too bad, after the first range outing the action is definitely smoothing out, I just need to get a few hundred more rounds through it.
Recoils was not unmanageable, in fact it did not seem like a huge step up from my AR, but a step up none the less. Dumping 20 rounds is an exercise in fun, and can be done while easily keeping the impacts below the berm.
I can't wait to get out again with this rifle. I think that the JLD rifle is a good value, everything I expected, no disappointment, and a lot of fun.
One thing I did notice, and was wondering if anybody could say exactly what was going on. When I short stroke it, or try to follow the charging handle forward, the bolt does not completely close. I dry fired it in this condition and it seems that the bolt moves forward when the hammer falls. What would happen if a round was chambered in this condition? Just to be clear, it only has done this when I have not properly charged the weapon, and no magazine/ammunition was present.
