My R1 build.  I did the camo job in my garage.  I tried to match the original Rhodesian pattern as best I could.  I have since finished building it and it shoots like a Swiss watch.

Here is the start of mine.

FSE- H/T/S
Tapco- piston, cocking handle, SAW grip
Century- handguards

Probably not going to use the grip and keep the wood one-looks nicer

Just picked it up last week....1 day shy of 21 weeks with the gunsmith.

It does look good except for the unfinished hinge pin.  I'll fix that soon.

We need to get together soon for another shoot.

My first STG58 FAL, not even 12 hours old yet. I want to replace the handguards already, as this was a kit gun and they are pretty beat.

It might not be as cool as everyone else's stuff, but it fires straight, reliably and accurately!  I am very happy I picked it up, now its time to upgrade to an STG Carbine with the skeleton stock.

Two battle rifles for the price of one!  CAI FAL and Springfield Scout DMR

I picked mine up 3 years ago.  After some fine tuning it now shoots 5 inch groups at 400yds.  It is my favorite rifle to shoot.

Yep!  Can't wait to finish jazzing it up.  I'm going to have a RAS handguards and I think a Doctor red dot sight on DSA's new para scope mount, and maybe a new grip.  Hmmm.

Man, that is sweet.  I'm actually glad to see somebody willing to do that to an original.  A lot of folks are afraid to do that.  On something rare like a 50.42, I'd certainly not do it, but you've really made the most of that thing.

Oh yeah... you really should consider an ARMS mount rather than DSA.  It is so much more trim and easy to install and remove.  Costs a bunch more, but that thing deserves it.

Actually, I don't know if I would have the guts to do that.  Back in the mid 90's, DSA made a small run of select fire paratroopers with the then OSW prototypes.  There were 4 total.  They used original FN para's and swapped out the uppers.  They were only $3400. I bought one from them already in that configuration so I don't have the original upper.  I lament about that sometimes.

Which ARMS product are you referring to?  I don't see anything for FAL's on their website.  I think I vaguely recall purchasing something for my para that included a Swan rail, and it was a special extended rail which is all they had at the SHOT show I was at, but whether it was ARMS or DSA, I can't recall.  Is this a RAS type forearm, Receiver cover scope mount, or something else?

For one of my other FAL's I was thinking of buying GSRC's modified DSA HD rcvr cover scope mount which is specially cut for an ACOG (keeps the hight low, bolts on directly) and I already got a TA-11E for it.  But for the Para, I want to keep it trim.  Please give me a little more info on the ARMS product you were talking about.  Thanks!

I believe its the #3.  Entreprise sells it here.  I've seen them elsewhere as well.  I've got one for my para and one on a standard.  It doesn't hang over the edges of the receiver.

This picture is of the old model.  The new one has the rail all the way forward.  Make sure you specify you want the new model.

Thanks cliffy109 and Gloftoe, there goes some more money out the door...  Now I am debating if I should even bother with the RAS forend on my para as the polymer stocks are nice and trim.  I still want a RAS forend on my other standard FAL's.  I've got a nice DSA full size (ordered carbine length but a local dealer screwed that up but I kept it). A CAI/Hesse STG-58 that actually works, though the one screw muzzle brake shot off within the first mag or two never to be seen again.  It was nasty looking but had someone dehorn it, repark, and put on a custom folding charging handle as well as fix the groove in the barrel left from the departing brake. Then I have an SA-4800 (or is it SA-48?) which I intended to turn into a para by getting the para kit and a congo barrel for, since it was preban, but I think I'll wait until after the AWB sunsets and see what's what.
I just love para's!  I'll shut up now, stop messing up the thread, and replace this post with pics of the others when I get the chance.

Cliffy109, in response to your post below, I must have made a mistake then, perhaps it is a SA-48 Match as it is most definitely preban, it was purchased way before the ban (circa '84 or so) and came from the factory with a standard stock and pistol grip.  I just couldn't remember the model #.
Link Posted: 2/28/2004 10:08:24 PM EDT
[#44]
Be careful.  The SAR4800 is post ban.  They will still say "1005-SA-48-MATCH" on the right side, but the left will saw SAR4800 and it is without question post 89 import ban.  That means you're pretty much hosed becuase if you want to remove the thumbhole stock, you've got to make it 922r compliant and to install a folder, you've got to be able to show it was in that condition and legal (meaning US compliance parts that didn't exist) in September of 1994.

Oh... and just to get this topic back on track...

This is my shorty with FSE FC, DSA 16" Badger barrel with DSA brake, Coonan receiver, DSA G3 grip and now wearing a DSA X-stock.  The scope is a Kalinka Optics VOMZ 6x.  I use it on various rifles.  I am getting ready to swap barrels on two other FALs and I'll post pics of them when I finish.

This is a G1 assembled on a Century unibrow receiver and an Imbel kit on a Coonan.  I modified the handguards to accept a bipod by drilling a hole through the handguard and using an AR mount.
