I've noticed over the last few times shooting my Garand, that occasionally after a few rounds, the clip will pop out, and leave the bolt stuck on the back of it.  It can easily be cleared by pulling the operating rod back, and pushing the clip back in, and usually, the clip will stay in for the remaining rounds.
What causes this?
Is it bad clips? Worn out hold down for the clips?

The "usual" is a worn clip latch, or a weak clip latch spring.

The clip latch is the long lever with a rectangular finger pad on the left side of the receiver.

It and the spring are held in with a long pin that pushes out forward.

Start out with replacing the spring.  If it still gives trouble, replace the clip latch.
