The last time I fired one of my Garands , the operating rod jumped out of the track.
I was able to wiggle it back into place , so I'm assuming it's worn .  I have read
somewhere that they can be repaired . Would this be more cost effective than just
replacing it ?   Who does this type of work ?

Yes, rewelding the tab rund around $45 and is much cheaper than a new opt rod.

As for how can do it, there are more than a few smiths,  but warbird comes to mind,

Might want to just give Tim a call if he doesn't email you back (he gets slammed with them).
