Can anyone tell me about the quality of a fedord receiver?
I am being offered a gi parts gun with a fedord receiver at a good price.
I am willing to take any steps that are needed to correct any problems.
I have read somewhere that the receivers need to be reheat treat kind of like the Chinese based guns.
Thanks

First of all the Chinese guns don't need reheat treating.  That's just internet BS.  The Chinese receivers are forged and correctly USGI dimensioned.  The Chinese parts suck though.

The FedOrd you're being offered is completely opposite.  The USGI parts are the best you can get, but the receiver is cast and lower-quality.  They're pretty much the low end of the M14-type rifle spectrum.  If you compare the FedOrd to the USGI or SA, inc product, you can see the difference in quality easily.

Some people don't have any problems with them, but as a rule a FedOrd rifle is worth the least out of any M14 type rifle around.

It's probably worth no more than $600 if the USGI parts are in great shape.  Unless you're getting it for less than $500, it isn't a good price.

Of all the M1A type receivers I've worked on I think the Federal Ordnance is the worst. Some guys say the receiver will stretch.

The only problem I have seen first hand, back in 1997 was cracked safety bridge. All I did was weld it, and clean it up so the firing pin would clear.

I would buy an Armscorp if you're looking for a low cost quality receiver. They're also still in business if you have a problem, which is very rare.
