We have been in business for 3.5 years and have always used standard paper bound books. Now we are thinking about going to an electronic system. Can an FFL have a combination of paper and electronic A&D books?

The problem is right now we have 5800 or so guns in our paper A&D books and it will take a lot of time to enter the info into the new system. For example we decide that everything after Feb 1st 2012 will be done electronically. Can we continue to use the paper A&D books for those guns received before Feb 1st and use the electronic system for all guns received on Feb 1st and after?

Yes, you can do it that way. If you transfer the "on-hand" guns to the new computer A/D just be sure to log them out of the manual book.

You could also scan the old pages of the A&D book and save that in you e-files.
I'm not a computor guru but I think there are programs out there that let you scan documents into workable pages. That would be a cool if that can be done. Maybe some of the computer guys here can chime in.
