Sorry. no targets, but my hunting load with a 150 gr. bullet always groups well under 1". GG |

Does the Varget perform well in a .223 as well because that would be great if I could use the same powder in my AR-15?

Benchmark works very well for Hornady 168 grain A Max.

You will have to test loads in your rifle to find what it likes. Varget is a popular choice with match bullets. I quit using Varget years ago and moved on to better measuring powders with the same accuracy. IMR-3031, 4064, and 4895 all share the measuring problem with Varget. Next time I load some 308, I will be trying out IMR-8208 XBR, as I have had great success with it in 223. It's a short length extruded powder, that measures like ball powder. Good luck |

I've had very good results with Varget in both 168gr Hornady HPBT and 69gr Speer HPBT

IMR-8208XBR has worked very well with 168 Amax's for me. RL-15, TAC, and PowerPro 2000MR also work very well out of my AR10 carbine. The later powder drives Lapua 185 D46's to 2500 accurately out of my 16" barrel without excessive pressure signs, .6 MOA. TAC & 2000MR are spherical powders so meter like water, the XBR is very nearly as good through my RL550. I also am trying AR-comp but screwed up my first OCW test so don't have good data yet.

If 223 and 308 are the criteria for one powder than I would suggest 8208XBR.
Varget, 4895, 3013 and 4064 are not suited to 223 (longer stick powder) particularly in a progressive although all would work well in 308. Another advantage with 8208 is the fact it is designed to be less sensitive to temperature changes which means less deviation on POA for different weather. 8208 is also excellent on heavy 223 loads. However, with WC844 so cheap at Hi-tech Ammo ($85.00 per 8 pound jug) it would make more sense to have 8208 or Varget for 308 and the WC844 for 55/62 gr 223 loads Wulfmann |
