[ARCHIVED THREAD] - What's your favorite type of ammo can?

I try to keep all my ammo and reloading supplies in ammo cans of some sort, and have been partial to the big FAT 50 cans.
I just bought a 4 pak of the 7.62 x 200 ct ammo cans and am planning on using them to store pistol reloads.

What is your favorites, what do you use them for and where have you been picking them up?

I like the regular 50 cans. Simply because I was able to find them easily for a good price. I have one fat 50 but it doesnt stack well with the others.

I usually pick mine up at the gun shows. We have a big one in Indy every three months or so, and the 50cal cans could be picked up for around 8.00. Though they have gone up a few dollars the last few shows, so I haven't gotten more.

Eta: I forgot to say that most of my cans hold ammo. One holds gun parts, and one holds cleaning stuff. Oh yeah, and one holds log chains, work gloves and bungees in the back of the jeep.

30 cal cans.

Fill a 50 Cal can with .45 acp reloads and it's HEAVY.

If they're holding ammo, I like the .30cal cans. The .50s get too heavy with 'bulk pack'

Just picked up some 30 cal cans last week for this very reason.

30 cal's for the pistol stuff since they're easier to cart around at a match and 50's for rifle and storage at home.

I like the .50s for storage and the .30s to take to the range most of the time. I have a good supply of them that I got at the fun show in bulk at a good price.

I found a British can set a few years ago which is heavy as crap, but holds enough ammo for a day long range trip. It has 4 cans which are marked 7.62, but are more naroow than a US 7.62 NATO can. The cans are all held together by a crate which clasps onto the top and bottom and had 2 carry handles. I'll post pics later.

I'll use any of them. 50's for bulk storage and 30's if I want to take some loose rounds to the range.

Just picked up 11 from a co-worker who smokes cigars. Whatever brand he bought came in 50 cal ammo cans. Can't turn down free ammo cans.

30's for loose ammo. Because the larger ones get too heavy.

50's for ammo in plastic ammo boxes.

Fat 50 for a "take ammo to range box". Holds just enough.

Maybe one day I will be that far along with my reloading.

Right now the only excess I have is 2x 420 round cans of Fed M855, and 800 rounds of the Federal XM 193 I loaded onto stripper clips.

I have some MK19 cans with about 300 rounds of 50BMG each. Those are nice to have to free up space for regular 50cal cans.

I also like the "grenade cans", never seen them much over the years.

My god, I haven't seen this picture of my old cat in years It's saved on some photobucket account for an ARFcom ammo whore thread i posted in years ago... Thought it was gone. That is Chuck the ammo cat. The grenade cans are the 3 stacked in the central row. They worked great for storing around 2k of 223loose or lots and lots of 12 gauge.

I got a little worked up seeing the picture of Chuck, don't have him anymore.

A posting of mine from a few years back:

Trivia

1) A standard USGI .50 cal can holds 1,200 loose 230 grain .45 ACP reloads.

2) A standard USGI .50 cal can full of loose 230 grain .45 ACP reloads weighs 62 pounds.

3) A pathetic 50 year old desk jockey should not grab a standard USGI .50 cal can full of loose 230 grain .45 ACP reloads in each hand in order to "toss" them up onto his reloading bench.

I still use the .50 cans. My hand doesn't fit well into .30 cans to scoop out ammo. Small problem to be sure, but it annoys me nonetheless.

I use both.
30 cal cans for bulk ammo
50 cal cans for other misc. stuff

I was going to et some from Wideners, but decided to check on eBay first. Good thing I did... They are a lot cheaper, after shipping, on eBay. I wound up paying around $11 each, shipped for the 7.62 cans. No decent army-navy stores near me, so ordering them is my only way to get them.

I got a plastic 30cal sized ammo can for Christmas. It's great - incredibly light and not as clunky as a metal ammo can.
