I bought one because of the hype. I got the large.
Yes it was basically perfect fit and finish. But I prefer a beefier pocket knife when spending that kind of money. my all time favorite folders are my grayman dua!! Then I bought the grayman satu! That think is a freaking huge ass tank of a perfect folder! I don't regret selling the sebenza. And I will have a dua or satu on me forever. Yes I've tried almost all the higher end folders and I just keep coming back to Grayman's. That and for some reason I like benchmades. |

It's a good knife, but nothing special. Doesn't have a super steel, doesn't come super sharp, does not open super easily (the thumb stud is somewhat small and surprisingly pointy). It would be impressive at $150, not so much at $400.
I like my Southard flipper from Spyderco way more, or my Reate, or the Benchmade Rift or 940-1, or a couple of ZT knives. It's a good knife, but I'd get two better ones for the money. |

I got to play with one for a bit, and like others have said.......
Fit and finish was on point......but like others have said.....the steel wasn't on par with other $400 folders, didn't open silky smooth & fast like some folders I've had in better steel for less than 1/2 the cost. So it depends on what is important to you in a folder. Does being pretty trump ease of use? If it does, that's fine and all. But IMHO, you'd be better off spending $400 on a ZT. A lot of people love the sebenza though.......but it's not for everyone, which applies to every folder I imagine. My opinions are based only on how I view a knife and what is important to me....what you or someone else might value....i cannot comment on. Buy what you want and enjoy it to its fullest extent possible. If that's a sebenza, well, then buy one. It's a good knife by many accounts, it just doesn't tickle my personal fancy. |

I picked mine up several years ago. "Worth it", is a very relative term. Materials are pretty standard, but machining and construction are quality...if you're looking for a decent folder, there are similar knives at a quarter the cost. However, if you desire a Sebenza because of it's name and history in the knife-world, it's a valuable addition to your collection. I carried mine for a few years, sent it back to Chris Reeves for a cleanup and it now sits in my safe (right beside my Hinderer). If you don't mind parting with the money, you won't be disappointed; however, if you're expecting a superior cutting tool, it likely will disappoint.

Bought my first one in 96. I gave it to a LEO that is member on this site 3 years ago. I now have two more. I think they are great.

You can find almost new ones for a good price in the classifieds. Only way to know if you like it is to try it out.
I sold my Sebenza 25 because I used the Umnumzaan more. |

Yes they are worth it, otherwise they wouldn't sell. When you get to that level of knife, you are paying for the aesthetics as well as the construction, fit & finish. Other knives for much less use s35v now, sure, but Chris Reeve helped develop it. Other steels have come out that are superior in some ways, but it is still a super steel. Other knives use a Ti frame lock, but Chris Reeve invented it. No they don't flick that well, but the insingo blade shape is awesome and with the CF scale the large Sebenza is incredibly light for a large extremely solid knife. Other less expensive knives will perform as well or better, but they don't make you feel the same way when you are carrying them. You have to decide how much you value that part of the experience. Comparing them to a BM or ZT is apples to onions - get both.

I love my plain Sebenza 21. I like that it's not a super thick prybar type of knife. It's lightweight, thin and carries nice. It's easy to take apart to clean and there's not a lot of screws and scales. I like the hollow grind too, it's easy to keep sharp. I've had mine for over two years, I think it looks better after it gets some wear marks and scratches. I wish I had bought it long ago, it would have saved me from buying a couple of other $200 knives that I don't carry anymore.

I'm picking up what everyone's putting down and it sounds like the Sebenza would be up my alley.
FWIW I wear a mechanical watch. Just a Seiko Turtle but I'd be wearing a Submariner if I was independently wealthy. A $350 knife is definitely within my tax bracket though. |

i love mine. yeah, it doesn't have the most impressive steel (i don't think there's any real problem with s35vn though), and it wasn't cheap, but those are really the only two things i can knock it for.

I personally think so.
It's not super fast flashy flipping, it's a well made pocket knife you open with purpose. The S35VN does well as a work knife and needs to be stropped from time to time but keeps a working edge. The handle design is perfect for working and its designed to be field serviceable Check my knife porn thread. It's uncommon for me not to be carrying a Sebenza every couple days even with a lot of great knives. Right now my Inkosi is ruling my pockets |

Good choice and a great knife.
I've owned customs, ZT/BM/Hinderer "Tanks", and others of the cheaper flavor (Kershaw chive for example). I still carry my small regular sebenza 10 years later. Big honking tactical brick knives have their place. I like to look at them. They suck for EDC unless your job requires wearing carharts or cargo pants. CRK's heat treat is pretty phenomenal. |
