What the legal issues of owning a out-the-top automatic knife? Can I even buy one if I'm not LEO or .Mil?

Seems to be a state by state thing. You can buy them here and carry them with a CCDW license.

in some states you can have them if you are fire/rescue.

i have a few i was issued through the navy and i see cheap ones at local gun shows. i carry mine

we can own them in SC but can only carry if mil/leo or only have the use of 1 hand
