As the title says

I’m building an 8.6 BO, is anyone other than Q working on a 8.6 specific can that you know of?

Faxon was using a thunder beast 338 ultra at shot show. Reviews were very positive.

Once my from 1 comes back, I'll be using my Hybrid 46 on my 8.6, and I'm planning on waiting for the Q can.  That Rex 10 looks really interesting, especially since I already bought their direct thread M18x1.5 to adapt the Hybrid to my Faxon barrel.  My other 338 rifle uses Griffin taper mounts, so them making a M18x1.5 taper mount would simplify my life.  Hopefully Q makes the big Cherry Bombs in other thread pitches so you can run the 338 can on other rifles.

I vote a ($1700) Thunderbeast 338 ultra or do a Rex MG10 8.6bo

I think my next suppressor will be a custom Rex .224 marked 5.7

Those metering videos TBAC posted on YouTube makes the 338 ultra look really dang good across pretty much everything so far.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a 9mm can.
.355 vs .338 is very negligible.

I bought a Rex MG10 a few years ago for this very project. Waiting on Rearden to come out with a muzzle device.

Pressure is higher and the supersonic stuff would wreck some pistol cans.

Options could be Wolfman, YHM R9 and Nitro N2O, Omega 9/45/k, Griffin Optimus or Bushwacker, Primal, Hybrid 46, Rex MG7/10, etc.

Diligent Defense  is also working on an 8.6BLK specific silencer.  Should be a good performer based on their past track record.

If you had read the comments on the post, you'd know projectile was spun too fast and came apart in the can. Not DAs fault or a QC issue.

If you take anything away from that picture/post, it should be to pay attention to the projectiles you use in super fast twist barrels.

Bingo.  And to make sure you choose a manufacturer that will be around and has a good warranty

Thanks for the suggestions. I already have some that were mentioned and will be good to go until we start seeing the cans specifically made for it. This will only see subs and is being built as an AR10 platform pistol, hopefully someone is making something with just that in mind.

Any rifle rated .36/9mm can should fit the bill.  Of course .338 Lapua cans will work, but they'll be on the large and heavy side of what's necessary for the relative pisqueak round 8.6 is in comparison.

If it proves a popular chambering,  I'll probably focus on an optimized design, but the round doesn't interest me personally,  so my motivation will have to be external.

That failure with a big 1/2” bore kind of says, that fast 1/3 twist rate for terminal ballistics appears to have potential to be a serious design compromise that customers will probably not understand or be aware of.  It would be like a vehicle sold with a redline that occasionally happened way down in the normal operating rpm range.

The bullet expanding in supersonic flight is not going to work with market suppressors.  Even for ballistics alone, the extra parasitic drag of expanding in flight would be an issue.

That strike makes the round look intolerant of suppressors, when considered from the perspective of the theory the round expanded from spinning too fast.

Maybe solid copper bullets will work but that’s expensive as a workaround.

The biggest issue even with 300blk is the ammo still hasn’t hit really nice case prices around $500-$600. It was a 9mm smg replacement and the ammo is three times the cost of 9mm for training and plinking which hurts its ability to replace those functions for especially recreational users.

KB and some of his employees spoke about the limitations that the 1/3 will have on projectile selection. They know they're going to have issues initially with customers having baffle strikes and bullets fragging inside cans

Seems like proper projectile choice is key. 300 Blackout was at that price or better before the world lost its mind. I know because I bought a case of S&B subs and I’m pretty sure they were eighth around $.60 a piece delivered.

Contender doesn't really handly 308ish calibers. If you could find someone to make a barrel and only did subs you might be ok but it's generally a bad idea.

Really a bad idea in a contender if solely subs?
