on rounds fired over long distances? i understand how to judge wind-speed but how about how much to adjust the scope for a shot at 300m, 500m, 1000m?

Simple answer is take the shot, note POI, with scope at original POA see which mil-dot matches POI, adjust hold (POA) to that mil-dot.

The best explaination of this and how to do it, I found in The Ultimate Sniper by ret Mjr. Plaster.

Or for the activity-challenged among us or like myself just plain lazy, enter the data into your ballsitics program, dial-in the prescribed correction and miss a foot left anyway.

The wind is not your friend.

Once you get the basics build the charts and keep it in your butt stock or laminate it and tape it to your stock.
