I have been looking at the new colored handguards(see pics below) that are currently being made and I am confused by all the available lengths. I have seen Fullsize, CAR, and Mid-size lengths all listed. I know what that the full size are for the standard 20" barrels but what do the other sizes fit?
 I have a 16" HBar upper, do I need the CAR or Mid-size length? And can I put M4 style on a 16" HBar? I always thought the CAR length was the correct size, so what are the Mid-size ones for?Standard Length  Mid Length  CAR Length  Sgtar15 |

98% of all carbines use the "short" or "carbine"-length handguards, based on the front sight block placement on Colt's original 10" XM177 carbines in the early '60s.
Armalite, and more recently Rock River Arms, make carbines with non-military "mid-length" handguards, and with the front sight block set foward accordingly. Mid-length handguards won't fit on anything else. -Troy |
