Where is the best place to get the best price on a Ruger 10/22? I am looking for a plain stainless model under $190 +tax (local dealer)

I just bought a Thompson Center arms .22 Classic from Walmart (speical order) for $269.00. Its a far better rifle,check it out before you get a 10/22.

I'm not sure about the stainless models, but I've seen the stock blue models on sale at Wally World for $130.

You can always ask them what the price would be if you had them order it for you also.

Why not try one of your local independent dealers.

Give the little guy a chance, you might pay a bit more but you also might get better service.

Please go to your local gun shop! Wal-Mart is NOT the place to buy firearms! If you have a problem with it, you're pretty much on your own. A local gun dealer (all the ones by me anyway) will back up their sale with SERVICE. At Wally World you might end up dealing with the clerk from the shoe department if you ever have to bring it back.
Look at the new Thompsons also, they look pretty good. People that I have sold them to are very happy with them. Cheaper is not always better.

As much as I dislike Wal-Fart, they have an exclusive deal right now with Ruger for a 22 inch deluxe sporter in stainless. My brother picked one up in Dallas for about $225.

For the west side of the valley try Lone Wolf at 51st and Peoria.

with a 22lr, at some point you get too much barrel, and 22" is to much barrel. You are just slowing down the round before it ever leaves the barrel.

Sorry, unless you have some chronograph data to back that up, can't agree with or even consider that statement valid.

If you're in the East Valley, the best prices I've found is Pistol Parlour in Mesa, at Country Club and Southern. They have a good selection and will order anything you want.

I agree with you Jim-dandy ,the velocity and energy should be higher not slower and you should have increased accuracy with 22" barrel .I bought one at walmart in ohio for $214.Brownells.com has a nice extended mag release (metal) for $19.

Thanks for info people. I personally, don't buy from Wal mart or K mart. I primarily, stick with local dealers and fun shows. Then there's the occasional out of state sell/trade. In those cases, the local guys still get their FFL fee, so they get their cut.

And in the Wal-mart in colinal Heights the workers in sporting goods do know what they are talking about . Very nice people!

The loss of velocity is a fact after 16". It isn't a dramatic loss, 5FPS per inch but the bullet is indeed slowing down after the 16" mark according to a G&A article in a .22 LR specific edition I bought 3 or 4 years ago. Ammo would have an effect on when the magical mark where the bullet began to slow inside the barrel. Standard velocity ammo would probably slow more than HV.

Maybe the topic title should be changed to "Best place 4 price on Ruger 10/22 that is primarily a local dealer or gunshow, but not WalMart, even though they are the lowest price".

Bottom liners will usually get what they pay for. What is wrong with spending a bit more and helping a small indepedent business out? It's not like the "Marts" are too keen on selling firearms anyway. I personally wouldn't care to be escorted out of the store after a firearms purchase and don't care for the policy of no ammo sales while purchasing a firearm. Does this sound like a company that really wants your friearms related business? They seem to think that most gun owner types can't be trusted or they are pandering to the Anti with their policies. Either way the policy is misguided and insulting.

I bought my 10/22 from walmart along with 1100 rds. of ammo for it all at the same time.they brought out every 10/22 they had so I could pick the stock I liked best.

Seems to me that Anschutz and the other builders of Olympic grade match rifles would build them all with 16" barrels.

They don't.

On the barrel length- It comes down to the point at which the gas from the powder is no longer the main force driving the bullet foreward. Then the guidance/stabilityof the barrel becomes friction. The longer barrels  may sacrifice a few FPS, but make up for it in increased accuracy.

The reason I used Walmart is the local shop couldn't get the TC.22 Classic for me,I had it in 4 days from Wally world.

First off, the guy asked for the cheapest place to get a Ruger 10/22. If you can tell me a place cheaper than WalMart that has them cheaper, other than when they are on sale, then I would like to hear it.

I buy Ruger 10/22's at WalMart because it is the cheapest place. If something goes wrong with a Ruger 10/22 that I cannot fix myself then I will sell all of my guns because I am too stupid to own them. This may not be the case for you, but I can take care of my own guns and will only take it to a gunshop if I want custom work done to it. I don't need a dealers support after I buy a 10/22.

Guess what? I buy my .22LR ammo at WalMart too. Why don't you gripe about that? I could get the same thing from a dealer for a few bucks more, but why when I can get it at WalMart cheaper? Why shouldn't people buy the cheap little things at the cheapest place you can find them?

Guess what, I order stuff from Brownells that I could get from a local dealer. Wanna gripe about that? I've got a C&R FFL too and I order guns at half the price that a gunshop downtown has them for, plus, they show up at my front door. Do you think I should get rid of my C&R and just pay the markup to the dealer?

The other day I even bought some broadheads for my bow for $10. I could have got them at the local bow shop for $30, but why? You can gripe about that if you want too.

I also buy 30rd magazines off the internet instead of paying the $35 the local stores want for them. Should I just give in and pay $100 for three mags to build up my collection? This is something that you can go to the GD board and gripe about cause I'm sure just about everybody here is guilty of this one.

I give local gunshops plenty of my money, I just don't see the sense in paying extra for something I can get cheaper down the street. You can either agree with it or not, it really makes no difference to me because I'll still buy stuff at WalMart no matter what you think or say.

You may justify spending your cash as you see fit, if it serves you to spend your ducats at the Marts for the bottom line then my dear boy go right ahead but IMHO in the end those that practice this are driving the local gunshop out of business.

You can count your pennies and recommend the Marts but I'll support the local dealers, thanks. The ones who are members of the NRA, the ones who support the local shooting community in ways the Marts will never even dream about.

I cheer every time I see that Kmart or any other large chain decides that the Democrats are right and issue new restrictive policies concerning firearms related products. I like it when Walmart sets restrictive policies concerning CCW in their stores. These organizations are not and never will be a friend of us shooters.

If you afford to spend $4K on guns that haven't even shown up yet then why can't you pony up the extra $2.00 for the .22 ammo?

The answers are there, you didn't pay attention to them. You are entitled to your opinion as Maynard is entitled to his. Yes, I buy items at the marts but I also don't always look for the cheapest because cheapest isn't always best.

I finally got it. I got the stainless with synthetic stock $202 OTD from a local dealer. I found out of state prices as low as $170. However, by the time I added $10 shipping + $25 FFL fee, I had gained nothing. I picked up a red dot sight for it and dug up the high caps that I had tucked away. I'm glad I hung on to those.

Try the same dealer. Now that he/they know who you are, the deals/prices will only get better!

I gave'em a shot. They'll keep an eye out for me. I was really impressed with the caliber of customer service with this purchase. We'll see what turns up in the next few weeks.
