The 9 mm Parabellum Star Super B that I bought for my wife's collection has a problem.  The magazine drops out during firing, leading to various interesting stovepipe jams.  I suspect that the magazine catch spring is tired.  Does anyone have any other ideas or words of wisdom?

I'd agree with your assessment.  I don't own a Star Super B, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.  I do have a couple BMs, tho.  The mag release button should be relatively stiff with plenty of spring resistance.  If it is weak, or easy to push, you may need a new spring.

If the gun is not really "worn out" the spring is almost certainly the culprit. Get another or make your own from whatever similar spring stock you may be able to find. If that does not resolve the issue, you may need a mag catch...which may not be so easy to locate...have you tried a different magazine?

The last time I test fired the pistol, two magazines dropped out  while I got stovepipe jams with the third.
