Where and how would one go about getting one of these? Are they class III or AOW? I guess if it's either you gotta be 21 to buy em huh? (wishes he was 21!!!!!)..

They fall under SBR (short barreled rifle), ask the legal forum for the best advice.

Can be done either way---
AOW: New virgin receiver, Form-1/$200 making tax, never have stock, must have forward grip. Transfer @ $5

SBR: Existing rifle lower, Form-1/$200 making tax, can have a stock. Transfer @ $200.

Or install to pistol lower as replacement, Pre-Ban and Post-Ban rules apply to use of upper to status of particular lower in event of pistol or SBR.

OR...

You can permanently attach a 5.5" muzzle break/flash suppressor (in the case of a preban) to reach the legal length.

no muzzle break.. want it 10.5 and no more..

so a AOW it would have to be a brand new FULL gun?

and a SBR I could get the 10.5 inch upper and throw it on my lower bushy?

gah these AOW,SBR, class III shit confuses the hell outta me

What do you want it for? I can't imagine how it would be useful.

I 'believe' this may be the first part of a carefully crafted bullet delivery system. The rifle(?) fires the bullet about 50 yards down range into a FedEx box, FedEx then picks up the box and delivers the bullet to the target.

Because state or Federal law says we can have it legally. I have my stuff for the fun factor.
(I do not have a 10", too ammo finicky, 11.5" is way more dependable)

Well, everybody's got their own idea of fun, but I personally don't find the notion of the muzzle blast and noise from a ten inch barrel, with no suppressor, very fun filled. Since I've had a copy of the XM177E2 for over 20 years now, with permenently attached clone of the muzzle brake (without the silencing piece) I can attest to the reason why the military found it desirable to put the oversized suppressors on the piece in the first place.

Before I attached the flash suppressor, we fired a couple of test rounds with the bare barrel. To call it unpleasant would be a gross understatement.

Keep in mind, if you build a "short barreled
rifle", it's yours for life.

The odds of selling it are next to
impossible.

If resale at a later time is not an issue, then have fun with your new toy.

Why are SBR's so hard to get rid of? Couldn't you just sell the upper seperate?

When registered as a SBR.
This means the registration of the lower
receiver (serial #).

Yes you can sell the upper, but then all you
have is a lower receiver that's registered as
a SBR. Once it's registered a SBR...it's a SBR.
There's no turning back
You can stick a banana on it if you want, but
it's still a SBR.

Actually I'm pretty sure you can, if you do not want the rifle as an SBR anymore you can request to have your SBR registration purged from the ATF registry....

Yes, you can have an SBR removed from the registry and returned to "Type 1" firearm status.

Of course this means no short uppers in the house unless you have another SBR or an M16.
